I just noticed on that “other forum” that there’s an OTT tuner in Utah, which is my backyard. Im going to reach out. If all goes well, id like to do stock dyno, plus retune then dyno, then intake/exhaust/retune + dyno. Maybe much more info to come! Thanks for your input!!!
what makes cruising at 80mph better with a tune? RPM's lower? less gear hunting on grades? both?

less gear hunting. itll hold gears longer, so rpms will stay up, letting it keep speed in the hills. flat land, it seems to stay in fifth better instead of having to down shift randomly.
I have both the VR Tune Stage 1 and a Pedal Commander set to Sport + 1 and they do make a difference and work well together.
I emailed VR Tuned and asked them if I could use PC with the tune and they said yes but if the 4Runner started acting weird to remove the PC. Fortunately everything works well and they seem to compliment each other. The tune seems to make the engine a lot better throughout the power band and the PC fixes the throttle response. Combined and it’s just a nice driving experience and makes the 4.0 V6 feel a lot more powerful and responsive.

5th gen 4runners are all in need of a tune. The stock pedal and trans shift mapping sucks. I had a PC and it was great until it started going out and giving me a dead pedal randomly until I cleared the throttle pedal position code it would trigger. I have since removed the PC. I am looking at getting the YotaWorks tune for a few reasons. I have a local tuner for this, it has different levels depending on what octane you want and how much throttle sensitivity you want. The biggest difference over the Vivid Racing tune is where the extra power is tuned in. Vivid tunes for more high RPM gains and YotaWorks tunes for low end power which is where we need it in the 4runner. Especially with larger tires, bumpers, armor and roof top tents and gear. Any increase lower RPM power and torque is more beneficial than power over 4500 RPMS.
The only two things I hate about my 4Runner is the poor towing performance and the stupid remote start.
If a tune would:
1. Give me more low end torque for towing.
2. Remove the stupid ignition off when you get into it after remote starting it.
I wouldn't have to buy another vehicle for 10 more years.

if someone smashed your window just to get in while remote start was running, you'd wish your car would've shut off automatically.. is that hard to literally push a button to restart the car after you get comfy in a nice toasty/cooled down interior?
yes its extremely hard and tiring to push button...they can take the suv and have a crackhead 3 way in the back with the rear window down...
my 2017 I have to use a key every time to start the suv and its annoying. :trophy:

12volt solutions remote start wont kill it when you open the door. if you try to drive away without the key in it will kill it though. we dont have the push start button tho, just the poor person physical key.
