voice navigation not working

"When I try to navigation function, i get voice saying drive and guidance will start. The map shows a route to my destination. However, when i start driving, i don't get anymore voice navigation telling me to turn/left right etc. It even does not reroute if i go the wrong direction. When I do arrive at me destination, the voice navigation comes on and says I'm at my destination."

This is an exact description of my problem on my factory installed nav system on my Toyota 05 4Runner. I found this on a thread from a person who was trying to install a nav system, and did not connect the speed sensor wire.

Has this happened to any one else with an installed system that was working and then just stopped voice navigation?

Does this mean my speed sensor is bad or the wire some how disconnected?

I've been to the dealer and they don't have a clue. the recomend changing the CD or getting a new unit!!!!!

How's it going? What unit do you have in the '05? E7xxx?

Unfortunately, it does sound like either the speed sensor input has somehow been interrupted (unlikely), or the unit has become faulty. Not sure how much merrit I would give the nav disc as having anything to do with that. It is easy enough to figure out if your nav unit is "seeing" the speed signal.

You will need to get to the service menu.
I hope this works - doing this by memory. Maybe someone else that has an OEM system can verify.

Go to the volume screen

Press Menu
(menu screen appears)

Press Volume
(volume screen appears)

Press upper left corner
Press lower left corner
Press upper left corner
Press lower left corner

(Service Menu will appear)


From here you can check vehicle sensor inputs which include the speed sensor. If it stays at zero, you know it's not reading anything, and I would then suggest pulling the unit and checking the 5-pin grey plug (with 3 wires; middle wire is the speed input).

You can check it with a multimeter. That's the ONLY way I would check it. Of course, this would have to be done while moving the vehicle forward or backwards (preferably by someone else). If you get the voltage indication (pulse), your wiring is good.

Hey Warren. It should be right on the face of the unit. The newer units in the 4th gen 4Runners are the E7008, I just can't remember what was installed in them prior to that. You have the two piece, right? Nav drive is on the right rear wheel well hump trim (no storage box on right side in cargo area)?

my unit is E7005.
I followed your directions and got into service menu. There are multiple catagories, but I can not find any thing that gives vehicle sensor imputs. Perhaps that option is not on older models, or I am looking at wrong sub menu?
