Volant CAI 2007 Limited V8

I installed my Volant CAI a few days ago. There was a 15% off sale at autoanything.com so I ordered a Borla Cat-back and the Volant CAI. The intake is loud at WOT and anything more than half throttle but you can drive it around without any noise. I thought my fiance would have said something to me about the truck being a little more loud than usual but maybe she didn't want to bring it up :) Looking forward to getting the exhaust in a week or two!

Alright here are some pictures for now. Sorry it's dark in the garage and it's a dirty engine bay (WI winters)
There is a larger opening into the fender-well also.

It started out with me just wanting the exhaust since my dog sits in the back, and with the 3rd window down I get a bit of fumes in the cabin. I wanted an exhaust that exited behind the tires. I know I could have modified the stock tailpipe to do so but I heard a couple YouTube videos and the Borla did sound pretty nice on the V8s. I'm almost 30 and I have a lesser tolerance to something sounding annoying so I was a little leery to modifying anything on this truck because it is my daily driver. The intake is a little louder than I hoped but I like it. I am not a fan of oiled air filters so I made sure that the Volant was a dry filter.
 
The Volant intake is about the worst thing you can do to the V8. The MAF cant compensate for the new airflow pattern and the a-f mixture in the upper RPM range is extremely inconsistent.

Someone on mud did something similar to the volant in his cruiser - he did a complete AFR analysis and realized this thing does more harm than good.

Why don't you post some info to prove what you are saying, you have said this on multiple topics but never back it with anything.

According to the info I found, the Volant and Exhaust combo makes power and works just fine:

I did the same thing because of my dog and the fumes. I am a little older than you and feel the same way about sound. Are you selling the intake because it was too loud for you? That would be my only complaint, at WOT the thing is loud! Normal driving you can barely tell it is there.
 
That is info about a deckplate mod, stock air tube, etc. not the Volant Cold air Kit.

I am also not that familiar with the 1998 Land Cruiser power plants, is the Motor and ECU the same as the 2008 Runner, is it the VVTI motor??

How can you compare those, that is like apple to orange.

The dyno charts I posted are for the Volant Kit, not a hacked up air box and it is on a 4Runner.

I can also tell you when I am at WOT, my truck isn't hesitating or stumbling at all, it is nice and smooth.

I am not happy...You have crapped on multiple peoples threads on this forum for no reason and keep spreading false information. If you don't have anything truthful to share or something that actually helps a topic then you should not say anything at all. It is all about putting up or shutting up.
 
I have to agree with Klennop, your information is spotty at best and often stretched thinly to meet your needs. I understand having an opinion, but you go on to put down people's rigs, set-ups, ect and then follow up with 'if it makes you happy' which comes off as a sarcastic way to blow the person off.

As for the information you provided, it is very well done and does show the disadvantages to doing a decklid mod on the air filter box. But I have a feeling that a company like Volant has done serious testing to adjust for those issues. Keep in mind that the poster in that thread was talking about how turbulence or some sort of resonence was causing the MAF to become confused. I am sure that in the course of the product's development Volant came accross this issue and found a way to negate the problem and or eliminate it.
 
he sounds similar to another member from NJ, who keeps getting banned for his very similar answers in posts, goes 90 mph on highway, says v8 the best, even the vec.s listed seem almost the same.

Volant CAI

I removed my CAI when I had the airduct slip and make contact with my fan blades. After reading the Stage 1 thread re-posted by Klennop, I put my CAI back on to pair up with my Borla catback dual exhaust. I forgot how nice it was even if there were no gains in performance. You can't argue the numbers and the dyno. Its worth it to me if you have both mods, exhaust and intake.
 
There's no doubt that the intake added some HP, I just put on a lot of miles and I like it more quiet. I put the factory intake back on and it feels less responsive and not as quick, but that's the tradeoff for being quiet.
 
I installed a Volant CAI into my 2003 Runner about six weeks ago. I love the power it pumps out and the sound is ever so sweet. My first road trip did flip engine codes however. My mechanic had modified my maf because Volant sent the 05-09 kit and the tube is different. He just sealed the maf much better so I'll see if this solves the problem. Apart from that the Volant is awesome.
