Volant CAI V8

I've seen a lot of people selling their Volant CAI's.
Curious if it's a problem with the product or just not worth the money?

Wont sell, but shouldnt have purchased in the first place

I feel the noise it makes is too much of a trade off to any power gains. Since I installed my magnaflow I dont hear it much over the dreaded DRONE. There is another mod I should have saved my money on.

My advice, change to a high flow air filter and keep the stock exhaust.

I would HAVE TO disagree

I find it funny when I read about folk saying that their intake or exhaust is too loud...... because it got me all worried before I got my goodies. Now that I have them, I WISH THEY WERE LOUDER.

1) The borla sounded BEST to me without the tailpipes on...... WAY TOO QUIET with the resonated borla tips on (and all the un-needed extra pipe for the 'fake' dual exh look).... so i had a local exhaust place just run both outlets out the rear right and add new tips, that aloud for more sound to shine through. THO i would have RATHER just ran the tips over the rear axle and kept them invisible and the truck LOUD. I cant believe people return these products bc of the loudness, i think its all rather quiet and civilized, but maybe thats because im 25.....?

2) The volant is NOT noisy at all to me.... I noticed it a little bit when I first had it, but after like 3 days it just molded into the sound of the motor and I could barely distinguish.... as far as power/ money ratio...... it is what it is....a better intake than stock (i know, its debatable) and it wont give you much hp/tq, probably just a handful.... but improvements are improvements.

Josh220, i honestly feel that getting one OR the other (esp. intake alone) would be a WASTE. If your engine will be inaling better, why not help it exhale better. And i just noticed you have the V8, man it sounds great! Just my $0.02

Out of curiosity, those of you who dont like ur intake/exhaust..... have you ever had another system on any other car? And how old are you?

ps- if I had the v6 id probably abstain from the exhaust... personal opinion.

I want to get the borla exhaust too, I just don't really like the 2 giant pipes sticking out the sides. I like just one chrome sticking straight out the right side.

After too much reading about this subject, I went ahead and did the install. Super easy and I dig the sound. My kit fit well with no problems. I did put a small section of foam weather stripping under the front side of the box to to reduce any vibration down the road. Not sure if all the calls to Volant's customer service finally resolved some of the issues, but as I well know, it SUCKS to try and tackle a project when you have the wrong parts, tools etc. Anyway, cheers and thanks for the input.

Im 36, if it matters

Maybe on a mustang something like this would sound cool but for me, neither do the trick. Im keeping the Volant with hopes that it increases MPG. They advertise like a 2 mpg increase, and Im calling BS! If anything, I have lost mpg but my problem is I upgraded tires, cai, and exhaust all within the same couple weeks.

Does anyone know if going to a larger magnaflow muffler would cut down on the drone? The 2k drone absolutely sucks!

i love the inductions howl it gives...probably not worth much power but there has been a 1-2mpg gain if resist the urge to drive with a heavy right foot.

I too have noticed a few selling their intakes but those that have stated that its not worth the money also run wider, taller or wider/taller tire combos which can more than offset the increase in power.

Adding another 50+lbs in tire to your rig can easily overcome some 10hp.

Thats the problem

I think thats the main problem with my setup. I installed the tires maybe a week before hand. Maybe I am back to pre upsized tires mpg. As I have said, I am keeping the CAI for the slight increase in MPG albeit, small increase.

Anyone have a fix for the dreaded magnaflow drone? Sorry to hijack this thread:biggrin2:

no fix for the drone, although its really not that bad. Each person is different and generally you will hear more from those who are more sensitive to noise than not.

i think the magnaflow is a bit tame to me.

Hmm, im curious as to HOW loud the magnaflow is....
And im no exhaust expert, but maybe you could change your tips to resonated tips, if they arent already. the borla tips are so, they have packing and shite like a little muffler.... so that maybe able to help u out JeremySoca.

There is a black runner around (now fs) that has exhuast of some sort that sounds good, i wonder

On a stock motor don't waste your money on CAI's and exhaust ( unless your looking for sound )

You'll spend a lot of money for next to no HP or milage gain.

If your boosted then it's a different story . Don't buy into HP gain stuff , it's simply not true. I've done a lot of testing with this stuff on Mustangs , both naturally and charged/boosted motors.

Most people that have done this actually crapped about the money they spent and the little gains they got . I MUST add this was all done on a comp. running on a DYNO JET , so no , its not just an off the cuff opinion.

I like the noise from the Volant. You only hear it when you step on the gas hard.
Yesterday I put on a Gibson stainless exhaust so now I notice that more than the intake.
