volant CAI

Hi all, I am having a little problem with my volant CAI. The rubber tubing that goes around the main tube into the box itself keeps sliping off. Everytime I put it back in upon a little hard accekation the rubber tube comes off . Is there any suggestion(s) from anyone who has the volant on a 05-06 v8 4runner? Sorry about the pic. I only have one that size will fit on this forum, but the rubber tubing that goes around the opening of the main tube with the maf sensor entering the airbox. It won't stay on and keeps moving and sliping off.

Mine was tough to install because I did it around the tube while it was already inside the airbox. If that is what you are doing, maybe remove the tube and install it and make sure the flexible edges are tight against the box. If that doesn't work, glue it on there!!

If you are going to use a glue and planning to use your 4R within an hour or so use a O2 sensor safe glue w/c you can buy at the auto store. Or use a regular glue but dont use or even start your 4R for more than 24 hours. Otherwise your CEL will be always on.

I find it if you remove the volant cover of the CAI the engine (v8) sounds more mean:bowdown:

You'll also find you'll be sucking in HOT air versus cold air from the fender and front of the engine.


About the seal...you really have to push it in there and make sure it seats all the way to the edge. if it isn't, it eventually works it way out. took me a bit.

What does that say about the KandN CAI?

It says it about all cold air intakes and the only time you really are seeing any HP gain is at highway speed;in traffic or on a trail there is no benefit to the intake except that it looks cool when you open the hood.

That would have to be false. We see gains on the Dyno and IDK about you but were not physically going anywhere with the fans off.

Now a SRI versus a CAI net gains over the stock airbox dyno proven. The difference between gains of the CAI and SRI on the highway we have seen gains with the laptop scantools.

I don't see how on a trail the a CAI is making a diff since there's no cold air getting under the hood at speeds under 5mph. $200 is a lot of money for such a minimal gain on a non-race vehicle IMO.

Ambient air temps determine the HP gain so if you are driving in 100 temps during the summer there will be really minimal gain if any at all.
