Clean the MAF Sensor!
Testimonial from someone that used CRC MAF Sensor cleaner.
I quote:
"Dear CRC,
I just wanted you to know that I tried out your Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner on my 1994 Ford Explorer (144k miles). I had been having problems with the engine and transmission including rough idle, hesitation, knocking, lack of power, and poor gas mileage. Additionally, the transmission was shifting incorrectly and the torque converter would not lock up anymore. My mechanic has been looking into the problem for quite a while and despite getting various check engine codes, could not figure out the problem. I read an advertisement for your MAF Sensor Cleaner in Popular Mechanics and based on the description of the potential problems, decided to give it a try. The cleaner cost roughly $6 and took
about 20 minutes to use (including figuring out a way around the secure Torx screws).
The sensor was filthy with what looked to be oil and carbon fouling which the cleaner blasted off without a problem. From the very first start-up after use, the problems are gone".
