Volant: Strike 2!

As some of you have seen my previous post on Volant (if not, see here http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=20487 ) i had some issues with the kit that they had sent me and had gotten in contact with them to get those issues resolved.

Well after speaking with one of their guys, they were nice enough to tell me that they would resend another intake box and some extra long "foam surround."

So today when the UPS man showed up and handed me a nice new box from Volant for me. At that same time they were supposed to pick up the reboxed up old airbox from me.

Well i open up the new box and instead of a new intake box and some longer foam surround, I get this

-One large conical filter

-One intake runner tube (which is off of a chevy application from what I can tell)

-One intake top/cap to an actual intake box

NOT A SINGLE THING THAT I ASKED FOR WAS IN THAT BOX...thank god that I didnt have the box ready to go back to volant with my first misdrilled intake in it. So tomorrow when UPS comes back to pick that up, they will be picking up the box that was just dropped off here.

This shit is annoying...

Wow. WTF? They said they would send me the larger correct filter for the V8, now I'll be interested to see what I receive...

No, its got beef. Which reminds me, now that I'm all moved in to my new place I need to find time to get back to the dyno and prove it. It made a difference. I also should post a video with the sound difference. I'll get around to it at some point just keep on me and I'll show you the BEEF.

well the UP's Man just showed up to pick up the box that showed yesterday..

They have one more shot at getting this right....

hey casper...im with you man, i got my intake and boy was it a headache... i took about an hour to drill a hole for the MAF and had to make two holes as well, for the screw to mount the MAF sensor....

well i finally decided to just dik with what i have and make the intake work with the provided parts that I had. It took me like an hour to use a small file to dig out the hole and make it work.

I like the sound but im still a bit skeptical of the setup...im still waiting on the parts from Volant but I have no idea when they are going to show up. Which means that im going to keep dicking around with this thing on my own time to make it better.

Last night I actually used foam weather stripping around the side inlet to seal that off more from the under hood heat on that side. In addition im working on solutions for the lack of sealing from where the intake runner tube enters the airbox and as well, the inlet in the front of the box.

If you guys want, i can make a video later today and then just ship it via email to those that want to see/hear it.

Just wanted to let everyone know that Volant sent me the right filter the other day. It is bigger and oval and fills the intake box better. No change in sound or performance. Just peace of mind...

I am sorry you had so many problems with Volant. I just got mine today and installed it. It wasn't as easy as some people said. The instructions are not too clear, and I don't like the way that the MAF sensor is attached to the tube, over all, it sounds like sort of a roar when you step on the pedal, like a sports car and I feel that the truck is more responsive. Don't know yet about fuel economy. How about you? Do you see any improvement in gas mileage?

well aparently the issues arent just with Volant intakes for 4runners. I ordered one for my new GTO and they had issues with drilling holes once again. They cant even drill holes to go with other things in their intakes that are already previously put together.

thanks for the info. i've been planning to get the volant cai, but i think i'll wait until they can fix all these issues.
