VSC, TRAC, ABS, Skid Lights on......FIXED

Hello everyone, I have a confirmed fix for this problem. Pls note it may be one of multiple fixes. My car is an 06 4Runner Sport V8

for comprehensive threads on this problem. I highly recommend anyone having this problem thoroughly read both threads.

I chased this problem for 1.5 years. Always intermittent. In the last few months it got more regular. Seemed like it was occurring when I stepped on the brake.

Codes - Bosch code reader at O'Reilly would not connect...so no codes

Calibration - Could not get beyond step 8

ABS wheel sensors - all checked out OK

Master Cylinder Brake Fluid Level - OK

I was freaked out that I might have to replace one of the computers or the ABS unit.

Last resort I tried the Brake Light Switch under the brake pedal. It was defective. PROBLEM SOLVED

The brake light switch has 4 flat contacts. Two are connected to the brake lights & two are connected to the Skid Control ECU.

I tested the switch & it had intermittent continuity between the two smaller contacts. I replaced the switch & all is OK for the past few weeks...including a 38 mile drive on a mildly rough dirt road here in the Colorado mountains.

I disassembled the switch. It was not apparent what failed. I believe the contacts were dirty....causing intermittent continuity.

I had the exact same problem with the exact same fix.

Ignored it for about a year until I was able to actually hook up a scanner that gave me a code for the brake light switch. Stupid cheap/easy fix.

In retrospect this is one of those cases where throwing a $25 part at the problem in a blind attempt to fix it, would have yielded perfect results, and wish I had done so. But since I don't typically do that kinda thing I just dealt with it/ignored it until I got around to scanning.

Oh well. Live and learn.
