VSC Trac and VSC Trac Off light observation

I read with interest the info in prior thread: www.toyota-4runner.org/problems-warranty-issues/32818-one-cause-fix-vsc-trac-vsc-off-lights-zero-point-calibration.html

So I just got back from having the A/C serviced and a LOF done at a local independent shop. I noticed as I was pulling away that the VSC Trac and VSC Off warning lights came on (and stayed on) as the vehicle started to move, but I didn't have time to turn around and ask them why. After I got home, I checked here and found the thread noted above, so after reading the first few pages, I called the shop and asked if they had hooked up a code reader to it for some reason. The owner didn't ask his tech, but he said initially they wouldn't have had any reason to. When I told him it looks like the zero point calibration memory had been tripped or erased somehow, he said it's possible to have that happen if they had the wheels off the ground, in gear and the tires spinning, so the car sees the wheels moving but the car ISN'T moving, causing hate and discontent somehow.

Anyway, he asked me to bring it back and he'd have them perform the calibration at no charge, so I'll do that tomorrow. But then I got to thinking, they also reset the "MAINT" light when they did the oil service....wouldn't they normally use a reader for that? When I've reset it, I've just followed the manual procedure (can't remember exactly what it is right now but I keep it in my console) which takes all of a minute, but I bet the shops use a reader.

Anyway, anyone else had these lights come on after a service like this, for the reason he described? Or is it more likely they induced it clearing my MAINT light?

Maint light off is push some buttons - no reader attached

What's an LOF ? Anyway if they unhooked your front shocks or otherwise stretched the ABS sensor cable you will new new cable/s to turn the lights off.

LOF = Lube-Oil-Filter. A phrase I picked up during my wrench turning days.

Anyway, I took it back to them this morning and they re-calibrated it. No more lights! The owner said again that they didn't have any reason to use a code reader on the car, so it had to happen because the wheels were spinning (in gear) while on the rack.

I was just curious if anyone else had these lights come on after the vehicle was on the rack as he described. Seems plausible and I trust these guys, so I have no reason to doubt them. I just hadn't seen this as a possible cause while reading the related posts on this forum.

I just had these two lights and the maint light come on tonight after I replaced the CV boot retaining clamps. I didn't have the car on or in gear but I did turn the rotors to make sure the CV boots were no longer leaking. Could this have caused this as well even though it was not in gear?

what recalibration did they have to do?

I disconnected my battery today for 20 minutes and no more lights. I have been driving all day and so far they have not returned. :thumb3:
