Dear all:
I live in Chile and I have been waiting for the 4runner with VSC and side- curtain airbags. They bring the models chile towithouth those characteristics.

Some people have told me 4runner are some slippery in the back rear. Do you think it would be dangerous buying the 4ruuner without VSC??

No, because VSC and/or any type of electronic gadgets can only assist you, but it will not prevent or overcome physics if you get over confident because you have them. I would drive a vehicle as if it didn't have these features, such as having ABS or 4WD doesn't mean it's now ok to drive faster when it's raining.

Thanks a lot, in fact you are totally right; some days ago I was driving a Subaru with all this security issues and almost get a problem because I felt over confident and I did some risky maneuvers.

I think VSC is wonderful but with common sense and practice we all made it this far :biggrin2: If you can get side airbags I say DO IT!

Something else to consider with a Chilean T4R would be an optional rear locker. Much of the US specs' T4R's offroad prowess is based in the ATRAC which gives it limited slip functionality F&R. VSC and ATRAC functions have some relation.

Without VSC the Chilean T4R may not have the ATRAC. If it doesn't have ATRAC and you're going to be off-roading I'd get any locker/enhanced traction options they have avail.

No, there is not an englich site, but I am going to ask the toyota guys about the ATRAC, what does it mean exactly?

ATRAC is an acronym for a brake controlled limited slip system. These 3 links have ALL the details. It will explain it far better than I could. Note: Some of these are old so they may reference '03 or '04 model years but the info is current and correct as far as the '08 is concerned.
