My 4x Innovations sliders came in the mail today!! I do have a question though. I want them to stick out enough to protect the truck, but at the same time I know i dont want to have them welded on flat. What kind of an angle do most people weld them on at?

I don't know the exact angle of mine, but they're tucked up there pretty good and are probably angled up as much as you can without getting in the way of opening the door. Check out the last few pages of my build thread for pics of it and let me know if you want any other pics or info.
 
Thanks man, yeah I really like how yours turned out. I didn't realize it until I actually held the frame plate and leg up to the frame, but the legs of the sliders end up being a whole lot lower on the frame than I thought. Tomorrow I should be getting them installed. I was talking to some of the guys I work with who were going to weld them on, and a few of them were concerned about cutting through the frame when they weld them on. Has anyone had any issues like that before?
 
The slider install was just finished! Woo! I do have one question though. If they are very close to the body, could they bump the body while driving? I guess I am asking if the body has a little flex in it while driving? I noticed a few light bumps or rattles that weren't there before, and I think that is what it is. With a little hammering it will be as good as new if that is the case. Pics will be up sometime tomorrow.
 
Congrats on getting your sliders mounted up.

They will absolutely bump up against the body if you install them too high. Usually they'll end up hitting on the pinch weld.

When I installed mine, I took a grinder and notched the pinch weld for the legs of the sliders so I could install them as high as possible. As long as you've got about 1/2" of clearance you'll be fine. Might sound like a lot, but remember the body is going to flex on the frame even more when you're off road.
 
haha well then I made a mistake with that, they are pretty close (probably 1/4 of an inch or a little less). I think I will bend the areas where the legs are to get them out of the way. Oh well, hindsight is 20/20. I still really like the way they look. They haven't been painted yet, so I will be painting them on the frame. I know it will be more tedious, but I only had enough time to get them welded on by the guys I work with. If I had 2 days to do it it would be a different story.

Thanks for the compliments guys, in 2 weeks I will be making a few more changes. They will be small, but I am still excited. I will post pictures as soon as I finish them up.
 
Painting them on the frame isn't too bad. Maybe you could get in there with a Dremel or something and notch the pinch weld. That thing is thicker than it looks and I imagine it's going to be a challenge to knock it down w/a hammer being that the sliders are in your way.

The good news is, that if you ever decide to do a body lift, you're sliders won't suddenly look like they're low-riding.

Do you think I could use a hammer and a chisel to bend the pinch weld in, towards the center of the car? I do have a dremel, so that might work out well also. Haha , yeah with a 1 inch BL it would look perfect, but I don't really plan on getting one for now.

i didnt realize this thread was on here or i would have posted earlier.....but a week or 2 ago i saw a silver t4r (cant remember if it was sport,limited or sr5) that looked like it had about a 3" lift. still had stock rims on....maybe 275's? and last but not least it had a black brush guard on the front(obviously...lol).

takin a long shot but i was j/w if i could find that person on here....OH and he was wearing fatigues so im guessing they work on PAFB right by me.

Sorry for the delay, I moved out of my apartment for the summer and then went to the beach. I finally got a little time on the computer so i figured I would post up those pics.

I love how they look. I still need to paint them though. They also make contact with the body pretty frequently, so I will be trimming/ beating the pinch weld that is in the way.

I have been wanting a new head unit for a while, so I decided to get one before going back to school. I wanted one with front and rear usb hookups, so this one was perfect. It was also on sale.

I also got new lower ball joints, but dont have pictures of them. I will be working on the 4runner the next few days getting everything ready before I head back to school. I will update this soon with more pics after everything is done!
 
Alright well I have made some progress, but still have a few things left to do before I head back to school on Thursday. I have installed my rear lift spacers, new lbj's jvc headunit, cb, and painted my sliders.

Here is one of the new ones. It really wasn't too bad of a job. I used Toyota parts after hearing about everyone's experiences with other brands.

I have never heard of this kind of rubber coating, but my dad had some at work, so i gave it a shot. I actually think it came out really well and i will hopefully be posing better pictures of each side. There is one layer of primer, two layers of black paint, and about 3 thick layers of rubber underkoat.

Here is my favorite mod so far. I have really wanted one for a long time and my dad actually got his hands on one from a friend.
A spare tire crank! My 4Runner never came with one. I had a tool to raise and lower the jack, but it wouldn't lower the spare (It wasn't factory).

The place I went to was recommended to me by a coworker. Apparently they sell tires cheaper than anywhere else around the place I was staying this summer and my hometown. The 285's would have been more, but would have still been cheaper than other places. I saved around 150-200 bucks or more. I would have gone with 285s, but I didn't want to deal with spacers, or getting new rims. I did notice a power loss. It is nothing too bad though. I just accelerate slowly and try to save gas...
