I own both a 4Runner and a VW Touareg. 2005 V6 Runner and a 2005 V6 Touareg. I also owned a 2001 4Runner a while back that was fully built up.
I have done quite a bit of offroading in the Touareg as well. Here are a few quick pics...
The pics above are from Sherman Pass Jeep Trail. Some of you may be familiar with it. My Treg is a base model V6. No air suspension and no rear locker. Just the center diff lock. I made it through. Kind of took the fun out of offroading though. It was tough for the Treg. And if I didnt have the offroad experience that I do, I may not have made it out. Haha.
Needless to say, it no longer offroads. I was between 4Runners and I did what I had to. I needed earthage. This is how it now sits, minus the basket. Pulled that for the 4Runner.
For what the Touareg is (Luxury SUV), it does quite well offroad. But comparing it to a 4Runner... No way. Especially once you mod a 4Runner.
But interior wise, the Touareg is legit. Typical German goodness. Dont get me wrong though, I love my 4Runner interior. But that because I am a man and I like trucks. Haha.
And for the record, my Touareg was built in Germany. Like someone previously posted, the cheaper VWs are made in Mexico. The Touaregs are built like tanks and very solid.
