Waag Rear Bumper Guard

Let me just say that this newest addition to my rig was by far one of the best investments.

So, I am in the city this weekend, (one day after i put the thing on) and i am waiting at a red light on 2nd ave in the 80's and some efing taxi driver decides to bump into the back of my baby doing like 5mph or so. Instantly i want to get out of the car, and clean the ground with him, but instead all i could do was laugh. As it turns out, the bumper guard totally saved my ass (literally). The thing didn't even budge or move. Absolutely no damage to the back of the car. His car on the other hand, lets just say he has a little explaining to do. His hood was bent up and in, and his bumper was cracked and broke in two spots. Man, you should have seen the look on his face when i was just laughing at him. Efing retard.

So, the moral of the story is, get the waag rear bumper guard. The isht really works

What about the Go Rhino Hitch Step?

Has anyone had any crash experience with the Go Rhino Hitch Step? Even though it only protects the center, leaving the corners unprotected, it seems a little stronger.

That is def a good purchase as well, cuz it bolts right into the hitch. Def, very strong. The only reason i didn't want that, is b/c it doesn't cover more of the bumper. In addition, i don't know if it would bend the actual hitch if it was hit like that.

exactly. The one that i have i guess is the newer model, and is much thicker and wraps around the trailer hitch, instead of going on top of it. Sturdier that way. When i get some time i'll take a pic of it to post up

What about the Go Rhino Hitch Step?

Hey to all was looking at this thread just yesterday, I just bought a 2003 SR5/Sport V-8 4Runner. as I too don't like the plastic bumpers I was surfing when I came across this picture. I had taken my Rhino step off the '00 4Runner I sold and after some wheel grinding slipped it into the receiver. Any way on my way home last night on the infamous 495 beltway around DC a young lady, in a VW Golf decided she would answer the question "has any body had crash experience with the Go Rhino Hitch step"!!!

Needless to say the Go Rhino step is wrapped around my receiver, the receiver may be warped, haven't gone to the collision shop yet, and I am concerned that the frame may be knocked about, we'll see.

But the answer is there is NO apparent damage to the bumper, some little scratches, and of course the Hitch step is destroyed, but all in all for inexpensive protection...BUY ONE...

I'll be ordering two today one for my 4Runner after fixes and one for the back of my Tundra. I will also be ordering the WAAG front and rear bumper guards...CSM-H

First, hope you're ok. Secondly you know what they say, "an ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure". Now, with that being said, that was what i didn't want to happen if i got the go rhino step. I was worried about the hitch, and the frame. If you would look at my first post about what happened to me, i would have surely had the same as you, if not worse damage in the city that night.

But to be honest, sure the waag costs more than the step, but man does it work well.

How did the Golf do? Buckled hood? Push the grill and radiator into the engine?

F that was what i didn't want to happen if i got the go rhino step. I was worried about the hitch, and the frame.

How does the waag attach to the 4Runner so it would perform better?

It attaches to 4 points under the bumper to the frame. In addition there are 4 heavy rubber strips ( two on the inside so if g-d forbid someone does hit you, the rubber hits the bumper not metal) and two on the outside for the ahole that hits you.

There is also about 3 inches of space b/w the actual bumper and the rubber spots, so it has space to give.

Hitch Step w/ backup warning!

Interesting.. was doing a search and came across this GoRhino! hitch step that has a built in backup warning! Can kill two birds with one stone so to speak... and right now it's ON SALE for $185!

But yea, that def is a good idea. I am just wondering how good that thing will stand up if you get tapped by another car. The sensor itself, is what i meant

Thanks for comments. the Golf, well lets see imediately after pulling over it died, green fluid everywhere. the "Go Rhino Hitch Step" cleard the plastic bumper and because she hit me at about 30-35 mph the step bars bent completely back under the Runner thus leaving the 2" square post to go into the small grill and into the radiator. As I am dropping my truck off next week and we are going to the same Progressive shop, I'll see how much it really was and let you all know. CSM-H

Could you take some close-ups? Trying to figure out how it maintains its strength in the middle of the guard.

no problem. I'll take from underneath, profile, and top. Also i'll show distance from bumper to protective bar.

And if you were to look underneath the car you could see the mounting points. The one is on the left side (using the factory holes) is mounted where factory tow hook is. And the other is right across on the other side. Our car comes with 11/16 size bolt ( I think) and the ones that come with the push bar are 3/4's
