WabFab disconnects... are they worth the $$$?

I know that there are several running the WabFab disconnects... my question is are they worth the money? For $150 they seem rather expensive, but I guess they might pay for themselves if you break the stock ones wheeling.
Any cons other than the price?
Also, I am looking for some pics of the front discos, since the WabFab website only show a pic of the rear links. (I am running rear 95' 4runner links which seem to do the trick since they are about an inch longer)
Is it hard to reconnect after they are off? It would seem to be rather hard to reconnect without any compression on the coilovers.

The disconnects look the same front and rear. They are easy to remove and put on. You need a 19mm or 3/4 socket to remove the nut on top and then the bottom is held in with a hitch pin. Takes about 5 minutes. I start my deflators, remove one side. fire up engine turn wheels the other direction. Remove my deflators and then remove second disconnect. Tip for reinstalling is insert both end links before tightening the nuts on top.

Some have made their own similar to the WabFab ones for cheaper but remember this is the 3rd or 4th version of them to get right strength materials.

I agree, just remove the front sway bar, and spend all that cash on something else, if you MUST have them, like others said, do a google search and find something that cost less, and you will get them when you order them :guitar3:

Dont remove the front sway bar. Its there to make it safe for street driving.

For the front when you hit the trail just remove one link on one side of the sway bar. This will allow the front to fully flex and still put weight down on both front tires to give you good traction and they will never break. If you remove it then only one tire under flex gets the weight while the other tire just sits and spins since there is no weight to give it traction. This has been fully tested by Steve at SS and you wont lose any flex.

For the rear if you adjust the height of the sway bar for the amount of lift with brackets you can get just as much flex without it as long as your panhead bar is upgraded since the stock panhead bar holds back flex.

It seems like Wab Fab makes some great products, but he's not the best businessman. He is active over on Yotatech and really has a chip on his shoulder. God forbid you disagree with anything he says, he will just go off on you like you are 3rd grader walking into his shop.

The sway bar doesn't really make it much safer, it makes it more comfortable around corners. It helps a little bit because the center of gravity doesn't shift quite as much, but it mostly improves the feel. If you have lift, then it may be a bit less safe without the sway bar, but in stock form, it isn't as big a deal.

Go on mcmastercarr and look around. You can probably make your own for about $50

A couple people have built their own disconnects, not sure if any of them have really been successful, but there are a couple other designs out there. I'd vote for disconnecting 1 side and leaving it in stock form.

my vote is to not buy them. if your stock end-links are in good shape they can be removed fairly easily. i have the wabfab disconnects on mine and it doesn't seem to improve the quickness of removal by all that much. my stock ones came off just as easily as the quick disconnects in my opinion. that's my 2 cents.

I always wondered about that. Manually operated disco's seem like a waste to me. Now...the ones that disconnect electronically.....different story.

I agree, however I think even some of the ones like they make for the older Wranglers are worth it, the ones that just have one or two pins in them. To me it's not really a quick disconnect if it still requires tools.

I just ditched the sway bars on mine however I'm contemplating making up a set of quick disco's for the front just to keep the ability to preform emergency maneuvers on the highway. I didn't have any sway bars on my previous Tacoma and normal day to day driving is fine however if you have to swerve at higher speeds you better be ready for it.

When I told him that I did the censoring myself and I didn't even get why he was so uptight, cause you can say "WTF" all day long and no one cares... Anyhow as soon as I called him on it, he banned me. If that's any kind of idea on how he runs a business (and I've heard from others it is...) then I'd just leave him alone and take my business elsewhere where you will be treated with kindness and respect. He is the single reason I don't frequent Yotatech and have a T4r.org sticker on my truck with no such luck of a Yotatech ever making it on there.

I met him a few years back, before I knew much of his internet persona. He didn't seem that bad in person but it's kinda funny how people get a chip on their shoulder behind the safety of their computer.

Pretty sad that one person can come across so poorly on the internet. From my experience with other cars and online forums...it seems like guys that are in the business (tuning shops, builders, etc) can get to be ****s really easily. Seems like it should be opposite, but history has proven otherwise.

Yep, that is why I don't post over there any more. He banned me because my avatar had a bikini girl in it. Not to mention he's pushed it to be rated "G" to the extreme that I find it stupid. How many kids really are going to be looking up on Toyota forums? Most are going to be at least 15-16, and have probably heard the F word before.

I am in no way shape or form affiliated with Brian (wabfab) and I'm neutral about the topic. I have only talked to him a few times and have never bought anything from him. They run a tight ship over there at YT, we all know the rules. However, this is not the right place to discuss this.

No sway bars? Darwin's theory at work. They're great to have off when going slow on a trail but on pavement at 70mph and you need to make an emergency maneuver then you put your life,family and others at risk,sway bars keep things tightened up at highway speeds.

Also consider if you were in a wreck and your insurance adjuster or investigators noticed a removed swaybar it could raise an eyebrow. Just sayin'.
