Wait for 06 or Purchase 05?

I am undecided right now. Should I wait for the 06 or purchase an 05 now with the $2500 incentive? I know dealerships are trying to get rid of 05s, so I should be able to pull a good deal. Are the changes in the 06 really worth the extra cash? I don't want to have buyers remorse after the deal, but then again, I'd hate to pass up an excellent deal. Opinions? Thanks.

Not sure about your area, but the $2500 rebate for V8 models in SoCal ended 09/06.

I have a little buyer's remorse on my '05 puchase the end of July. My old car's warranty had run out, and the last year it had a lot of issues, so I was afraid to wait on a new vehicle.

I really like the new interior features of the '06, but I like the body styling better on the '05. If I was buying now and money wasn't tight, I would get the '06. However, if you are maxing your budget like I was, then get the '05. It is still a great truck, and you should have no trouble getting invoice or below if you are not adverse to haggling.

Buy the 05, the 06's changes on the exterior are not that great, just the lights. I can't stand the new wheelwells, glad I got my 04 new in 04 though.

The only thing I like on the exterior they changed is the headlights to projectors, the rest is not that impressive to me.

Always go with the newest model, unless there is something about the older one that you have to have. If you get an 05 now, you are buying a 4runner that is already a year old. As soon as you drive it off the lot it becomes the same age as the ones that were sold 12 months ago.

Found my way to this forum as I'm debating the same question...it appears that there's now an incentive of $3K on '05 V8's in SoCal through 10/3.

Invoice price + $3K rebate is really hard to pass up now, especially given that KBB lists private resale values on pre-owned '05's to be considerably higher than new.

I personally like the exterior of the 2003-2005 4runners, although I am a bit biased. I just don't like the rounded fenders on the 2006. If the sheetmetal isn't change, but the 2006 and then get the fenders from a 2005

Don't get me wrong, I'm hella jealous of the projector head lights, led tail lights, mp3 6disc cd changer, and memory seats.

$3k in incentives is REALLY hard to pass up though

Also keep in mind....if you are a horsepower finatic then the 06's lose about 10 horsepower (V6s & V8s) and think about 15-20lbs/ft of torque. Looked at the miles per gallon for both years and there is no significant changes to indicate any major savings. If you can do without those minor changes, then i would definately get a 05', b/c you can probably get a hella-of-a-deal on a 05' right now so that the dealerships can make room for the new models. Just got a 05' a couple weeks ago and couldn't be more happy with my purchase. Think my only regrets was...yes, i'd love to have that auxillary input for my 30 gigs of mp3's. I can get a new 05 V8 Limited for $34,500.00. That includes Nav but doesn't have the X-REAS suspension or adjustable rear ride height. I'm not quite sure I can pass that up.

You would be crazy to pass that up, thats almost $5000 under invoice.

Good Price 2005 SE V6

In Anchorage, the best I've done so far for a 2005 SE V6 is 5% over invoice - $1000 rebate, or for the V8 -2000. There is only one dealer here. I thinking I should look into and outside purchase. I notice the 2006s have gone out about $1000!

The power is actually the same between the 05 and 06 models, it's the rating system that changed and resulted in the "decrease." Both years will perform exactly the same, as nothing changed mechanically

You know how the salesmen always play up the stats on horsepower, torque, etc in order to help sell the vehicles. Not that it really matters, but interested in knowing why this changed.

As I understand it, the entire power rating system was changed to a more standardized system. It affects certain manufacturers and even models differently (some more, some not at all if they were already using the new system), but the new rating method is to be used be everyone.....so it's not a Toyota specific thing.
