wal mart floor mats..dont do it

So I needed new floor mats as they were quite worn out so I'm in wal mart and think "$20, sure why not". I get them in my truck and the low quality rubber smells like a a mix of 70% BO, 15% puke, and 15% dysentery. My girl friend gets in the truck the next day and tells me I really need to shower. I explain its the floor mats and the smell will go away. Nope. It intensified 10-fold after a week, so I take them back with no receipt and dirty and I tell the guy at the counter "smell these". He says "OMG that's horrible" and gives me a refund. Just thought that it was funny trying to endure that awful smell for a week and having the stench stick to my Air Force uniform at work....

Honestly, I think Walmart sort of stinks in general...
You never see on the street the sort of characters you find at a walmart. BUT... they do have great cereal bowls for a buck. :yesyes:

i shop at a walmart because it's close to me and has cheap prices. they have a nice section of car care products. anything they have is much cheaper than autozone or discount autoparts. Last week I bought a container of chrome cleaner. It was 1.59 at walmart. I was in autozone the other day and noted the same exact item was 3.49. So for things like car wash stuff, rags, wax, polish, etc. and they also have an aisle of motor oil and related products, are all less expensive than you would buy anywhere else.
On the flipside they do not carry every speciality item and brand you would find at autozone. But on my last trip I noticed they are now starting to carry Lucas oil products.
The car mats and seat covers are low end quality, but the price reflects it. They have mats as you say for $20 a set. I'm shopping for a new set as my original ones are finally starting to wear down, and just browsing online there are nice quality brands like weather-tech but you can expect to pay $100 plus for a set not even including the rear piece(s). I see some other brands such as Husky and Nifty in the $60-80 ballpark. Same with car seat covers, they have them for $20-30 at walmart or autozone but for real good quality like those wet okoles those are over $200 for just the front seats.

i feel you man. weathertechs and seat covers are near the top of my list, but the price slaps me everytime i look at them, just like staring at your new sister in law's tits.....alright i'll admit i'm still drunk....i don't even have a sister in law, but you get it

i wish i had a few hundred extra dollars at the moment to do decent quality mats and seat covers but i'm now 1900 miles short of the 90K service and in addition to all the other usual 30,000 mile fluid changes etc i know it needs the new timing belt, water pump, etc which is all going to cost a small fortune.

i don't want cheap mats or seat covers so i would rather wait, get the maintenance taken care of, and then buy one and then the other. My drivers seat has 2 tears on the side, which i have patched but don't look beautiful, and the leather is starting to wear. So I will probably do the seats first, and then the mats. I figure when it comes to these things, like most other things, you pretty much are going to get what you pay for.

I picked up some rubber ones from there to, and yeah they smelt pretty strong like rubber and stuff when i first got them, but after a few days I just washed them with the hose and a little soap and let them dry and I put them back in and it def. helped them, and after another week it was fine, still got them today they have held up pretty nicely.

i recently put some black rubber walmart mats in my other car and the smell is not bad or even noticable at all. did you use this kind or did they look different?
