Wal-mart Trouble

Well, I posted the nice pictures of our 4wd trip over the holiday. Once back, my Wife and I went to Wal-mart a few days later to do a little Christmas shopping. I always park out in the sticks to keep "door dingers" away from our Runner. We were a good 40 yards from the closest vehicle. When we came out, there were no vehicles by our truck, but found a dent and white paint on my Wifes door and this nice scratch running all the way down the side of our Truck.

We dropped it off at Toyota today. It will cost about $1,300 to fix the damage. We have zero deductable, so no out of cost really for us, outside of some rental car... our insurance covers $16 a day, we pay the rest.

They said they can't get the stripe down the side of our truck from Toyota, so they are bringing in a stripe specialist to see if he can re-create the stripe. Bascially the whole side of the truck will get painted.

The hood had been sat on by someone at Church a few months ago and they left some nice scratches as they slid off (thanks!). They will see if they can buff it out at the same time, if they can't, they will paint.

I can't tell you how carefull we were on our little day trip in the mountains, yet to come home and a simple trip to Wal-mart produced this. What idiots!

Yea, it sucks man.

I parked my 4runner infront of someones house one time and when I came back their was a whole that must of been done by an icepick or pellet gun. And to top that off, someone carved the letter D on the back.

1,300? Damn, It only cost me around 600 to fix the whole and rust around it.

Thanks everyone. I think they are going to paint most of the passenger side because the scratch goes all the way to the back. They will also have to do something with the mirror because they got the side of it also.

For the time being, I'm driving a bubble. Ok, maybe it's not actually a bubble, but it feels like it. They got us a Toyota Echo. Nice "littl" car, it has plenty of get up and go, but I keep reaching down for the clutch.

sorry to hear that man. a few months after getting my runner, i was parked along a street in a nice neighborhood that i always park on to go to work.

when i came back, i found this:

a few days later, i saw a red minivan with a matching scrape on her rear bumper. it was an old lady, who at that moment was up on the curb in an attempt to parallel park.

it took every control-inducing bone in my body to not scream at her and question her.

considering she was a feeble old lady and im a pretty big guy, i didnt want to just walk up to her barking.

besides, if she just denied to death, what could i do? i had no evidence, no witnesses.

and the damage is done, and solved. oh well.

i've witnessed a few "scrape and runs", where i took down the person's plates and car info and left it on the windshield of the victim's car. if you accidentally scrape someone's car.....just leave your insurance information and learn from your mistakes. we're all adults!

when i was 17, i took a swig of iced tea, put it down, then took a turn. my hands were wet from the iced tea bottle, so i lost all my grip on the wheel and swerved into a parked car's rear bumper.

my car was totally fine, his bumper (it was one of those really little merc convertables) was dented and pushed up. i got out, left him a note apologizing with my phone number and address.

turned out the guy i hit was the owner of a large seafood chain here. he was so happy that i left him my info, that he said "forget about the damage, i'll take care of it. also, im sending you a gift certificate to my restaurant".

and he did. $75 certificate!

hes a very nice man, and that was the best it could have possibly worked out.

Along the lines of honesty, my Wife had picked up the new George Straight CD a few weeks back at Sams Club and when we got out to the car, we realized that they didn't charge us. She took it back in to customer service and they almost argued with her to take it back. They couldn't believe someone would be honest enough to return it. They kept saying, "but you didn't pay for it... why are you returning it?"

btw - I still haven't heard back about the stripe specialist and what they want to do. They are supposed to call me about it... if I don't hear back by tomorrow night, I'm calling them ti see what's up.

Our rental car is a little "bubble" (Toyota Echo) and it's still puring along and getting great gas millage. It's a lot of fun to drive and has plenty of getup and go... although, strangly enough, the speed-o and all the guages are located directly in the center of the dash in line with the console. I thought this would be strange at first, but you grow used to it pretty fast.

My mom parked her corrola out in BFE, next to the Pyramids so she could get some excersise walking into Walmart. When she returned from shoping, her car was totaled. When she returned to Walmart to see if they had it on Surveillance Camera, her car was parked out of range. They are just concerned with half of the parking lot, so BE CAREFUL where you park at you Friendly Neighborhood Walmart.
