Walker Rear Cat - this can't be right

The factory rear cat (CA emission) on my 2000 limited is leaking at the hanger so I ordered the walker 16535 stainless direct fit replacement. Besides looking like a 3rd grader was behind the welder, the flange is set about 1/2" back from the end of the pipe. Before I call to get a replacement, can someone please confirm that this isn't some goofy Toyota exhaust design?

I can't answer your question but I do have a question: Is that a photo of the NEW cat or the OLD one? Those welds look like they were done by a blind, one armed parkinson's patient.. If that is the quality of a Walker CAT, I don't think I want one.

Sadly, that's the brand new cat that showed up this afternoon. I'll be painting it to keep it from rusting (though it's supposed to be stainless). My walker review isn't starting out very well.

I finally found a picture that shows the end of the cat and it looks like the flange is supposed to be set back from the end of the pipe on one end. Weird.

I'm not sure how far back the flange *should* be, but I can guarantee mine is very similar to that, although it is not a walker brand.

Yeah, I think the tubes overlap a bit to help seal.

That cat does look like a POS. My Eastern CAT's looked fine, and they were pretty dang cheap. I guess for anyone reading this thread, don't buy walker...

You should send pictures of that to Walker. They can't be satisfied with that welding job. You might get a new one out of it.

But I will add to this. I used both Walkers cats and they both looked a lot better than this.

The only difference is mine is a screw in o2 so I didn't have the issue you're having.

The 96 factory flange had about the same setback as your walker does. I too thought no way was it going to slip into the napa muffler section. So I got two gaskets just in case. But everything went together correctly. The setback of the flange on the muffler for the tail pipe section looked like that too but went together without issues.

The exhaust went on today after an epic battle between me and the rusty old exhaust. Two carbide tipped sawzall blades later, the walker exhaust fits perfectly. It looks much better now that it's painted. I kept the factory tailpipe but painted it too.
