Take a look at the pictures. No word yet on the statement made by the witness about Michael's condition. He walked away with only a few scratches. I can't even tell for sure what he was driving, but my guess is a Sequoia.

That's interesting that he got charged with leaving the scene of an accident (in addition to reckless driving). It never occurred to me that if you are driving by yourself and crash into a telephone pole with no other vehicles involved that you can't leave the scene.

Ya I would probably up and leave too....no one involved, no one around, your car's trashed, why stick around really?

Of course, the problem is that the cops want you to wait around till they show up so they can determine if you're under the influence....which is probably one of the top reasons people flee the scene.....go home and THEN have a few shots to "calm down"

I have a feeling in Waltrip's case it was the other way around...he had a few shots then fled the scene to make sure he was sobered up before talking to the cops

Being an x-cop, I'll tell you right now that he left because he was drunk !!!!!!

Also the reason you can't leave is both the check of why it happened and believe it or not the damage to the pole . Its called a PDO ( property damage only ) . This actually happen to me personally when I hit a pole. It had to be inspected since it held power lines and was found to be cracked , I had to pay for a new pole.

The law is the law and he did not follow it and left for 1 simple reason. I would bet the farm !!!!

Nascar drivers know better than to drink and drive, maybe he thougt he was racing, we have all seen it on TV when the driver hits the wall, he gets out, takes his helmet off and walks back to the pits while a wrecker comes out and takes the car back to the garage.....
