Wanna Herculine the interior? Here's some pics

First of all, I'm a big fan of Herculiner. I've used it to coat my fender, side skirts and cargo area already. My carpet was toast after a little run in with some water so I had to decide to either replace the carpet or lay down some Herculiner (thanks to those who posted on that thread). I decided to go through with it. A quick run to Advance Auto and I had my Herculiner kit and extras totaled out to about $100.

ITEMS REQUIRED

Herculiner Kit ($90)

Paint roller tray ($6)

Drill type paint mixer ($4)

Coarse sanding sponge ($4)

10, 12 and 14mm sockets

Philips screw driver

Removing the interior is pretty simple.

Front seats have (4) 14mm bolts and electrical connections if you have power/heated seat.

Rear seat comes out in one piece with (8) 12mm bolts

Pull all four floor door moldings

Pull front kick panels, center seat belt cover and rear bottom corner molding.

Center console comes apart with a few Philips screws on the sides and (2) 10mm bolts inside the armrest.

The area of application will have to be clean dry and roughed up with the coarse sanding sponge or sand paper.

I'm going to reuse the door moldings so it is not necessary to tape the wires. I came to this conclusion half way through so the driver's side is taped all the way down, it was a waste of time.

Now for the fun part! Mix the Herculiner up real good cuz all hardening agent is at the bottom. From there on it's just like painting. Big spots are covered with the roller and cut in with the brush. When using the brush, use a stabbing motion instead of strokes. Allow a couple hours for drying and apply a second coat and 3rd if necessary.

Warning: these fumes are toxic and will make you loopy!:frog::bravo::lol::cheers:arty: Do this in a well ventilated area. Your Runner will smell like a$$ for a week even if you ride with the windows down but the smell will dissipate eventually. I cant wait to see what it looks like with the trim and seats all back in! I'd allow at least 24hrs before driving. I'm done with the first coat now...

I did mine a while back and am very pleased with how it has held up. Although I did put 2 coats on the whole interior except for the driver and passenger footwells they got 4 coats. I just wanted to make those a little thicker. I like the way it holds up to snow, water, mud and the like. Looks good man. Also the smell will go away after a while and you won't even notice it.

Hey larrylegend, how's the noise with no carpet? I know it's gonna be louder that's why I'm piling the liner on there, up to 3 coats all around. Trying to dry the seats out today since it's nice and sunny and warm.

The noise isn't too bad. The biggest thing I noticed was the rear wheel wells when driving in rain, they can be kind of loud. I am wanting to herculine the backs of my seats and also the inside of my rear wheel wells. I also took the back panels off and applied the herculiner about 4 inches up the sides. I put my carpet insert back in the cargo area for now but can remove it if I put anything muddy in the back.

Good to know it's just the rear thats noisy since iv had the rear done for a couple months now and don't find it to be bad at all.

Any picks yet? I wanted to do this mod as well, but Ive heard the noise is unbearable. I was thinking I would throw cheapo rubber mats down to help with noise and keep the rear mat in as well when im not showing off.

Also what about your wires in the back etc? Do you have any plans on conduit to keep them protected?

I didn't have to watch out for any wires. All the wires in the back are covered up by the trim and the same with the front. The noise really isn't too bad. Also, you can remove your carpet in one whole piece then herculine your rig. If you don't like it or its too loud then just put the carpet back in and you won't even know. That was my plan when i did mine. I obviously left the carpet out now.

Did this to mine a little over a year ago. The noise IS increased. Rubber mats decrease noise drastically. Slot of it comes from the rear. Cleaning is easy with a hose. Just watch alarm ecu under seat.

Finally got the seats dried out and installed. Also had to refurbish some power seat motors and the rear heat fan motor while they were out. But now it looks pretty sweet and the road noise isn't to bad at all. It's not a Mercedes so don't expect silence. Loudest noise I've noticed is a small exhaust leak that must be somewhere around the down pipe Y-flange. Other than that not too bad.

Wow Spencer, talk about BLACKED OUT! Nice. I had the rear seats completely apart and just painted the backs black. They look better Herculined like yours though. Sorry for the old pics, but you cant even see my seat backs behind my giant speaker box. Stupid 12"s! I'd like to get one BA 10" to save room for other stuff. I've always got a car seat in there anyway so the seats never go down.
