Hey! I just found this forum while doing some research on Gen4 4Runners and was hoping you guys could help.
I used to have a '98 5-speed with OME and a bunch of goodies... I miss it and am shopping for a newer version. I just demo'd a 2006 over the weekend and must say that I'm very impressed with the Gen4!
It's a silver 2006 Sport Edition with 68k miles listed at $19,999 and is in very good condition overall, but a few things are bugging me...
1> no receiver (hitch)... it has the trailer electrical hook-up, but it doesn't even have the right bumper cover with the notch in it for the receiver. It looks like the ones with the receiver have a different bumper cover, but I was thinking that I could trim out the area for the receiver. Does this make senses? Could I just buy the receiver portion and bolt it on?
2> I don't know much about this X-REAS suspension. I've searched for info and it seems to be pretty good, but does it really make a difference on-road? And what happens when it goes bad or I want to put on some OME shocks?
3> Not sure about the 4WD switch... I switched it into 4H without problem and then wanted to try 4L to see what the gear reduction is like. I was stopped, tranny in N, pushed and rotated the switch to 4L and the light was blinking and beeping at me. I fumbled around with the switch and with the center diff-lock switch and got it to drop into 4L... lots of grunt! Anyway, is there a specific sequence or technique that works best?
Another reason that I second guessing this one is that I stopped and saw an '07 SR5 4WD with 36k miles, immaculate, for $25,999... it just made me wonder if I should keep looking. I know the SR5 wouldn't have the X-REAS (and I think I'm OK with that) or the power seats, but it had everything else including a receiver and it's a certified vehicle with a full warranty.
Sorry for the long post, but I have a bunch on my mind! Any insight ould be much appreciated!
Thanks,
~Doozi
