Want to get better engine need help please

i want to get a better engine. nothing wrong with the one i got, (2000 limited v6) but i want somthing with more power, i have no idea whats out there or what i can put in. i saw a jeep wrangler witha hemi. and i thought that would be legit. and i off road often. so the power would be very nice. and body have any advice? maybe just upgrades for current engine? (135k miles on it) my budget would be around 10k. and the power wouldnt just be for off road (the off road i do is mostly mud and climbing, not much frame twisting) i just would love to have a powerful 4runner. i dont know how much any kind of new engine would be, so would supercharging be a better buy if its cheaper? or would a sweet engine be better.


please help

super charge it, but what kind of wheeling are you doing, alot of the real wheeling is done at low speeds and is all about torque not top end speed, which you can accomplish through gearing far easier than ripping the heart out of your yota ,

but hell if you want they make chevy 350 kits for the yotas for a swap, but i really wouldn;t suggest doing that, it's kind of blasphemy. lol

i'm sure other will chime in, but i'd just say supercharge it and be happy with that even though your super charged engine won't put out as much power as the hemi (assuming it's their 5.7L) will but it'll be kind of close.

dude he's got 10k to drop, supercharge it is probably further down the list, if your looking to put more money in your engine than you did the original purchase price of the truck or close to it, you can go ape shit, and no one here can really help you, i'd measure the engine compartment see the overall dimension you have , order the largest displacement long block you can have it port polished, stroked, a sweet sweet cam, and supercharged.

go for it man see what the maximum hp you can put into a 4runner is, i'd be looking at some of the 700hp chevy blocks in that price range.

you'll have to upgrade the trans and axles as well if your going 10K buck so keep that in mind

just because he can drop 10 g's on a 9 year old suv, doesn't mean he should. a supercharger will probably be around 3000-5000 if you go all out with URD's stuff. which will leave you with a bunch of money left over to do other stuff like armor and suspension (presuming it hasn't already been done)
 
if you actually want to waste time and cash on a swap do it to a 4BT (diesel engine from frito truck), if not just find the truck that Thai has, the Mercedes brick, it has a large V8 and i hear its good offroad.

lol, read my first post, i do not condone engine swaps, it's just wrong with something so reliable in the first place.

and then read my next one i about if you really want to drop 10K on a 9-12K car for an engine that's your choice here's one to think about ;-)


not saying he should but if he's going to i'd have a look at those, lol

i agree with the statement f just holding on to it for a year be happy with it and then sell it and get a new 2010 te with the v8, that's he best option really, if he wants v8 power, otherwise like the very first thing i said just supercharge it and be happy with it, it's a suv not a corvette lol:bat:
 
yes i have 10k to spend. yes i want quality everything. no i dont want a new car or a 2010. the 10k i have, i was hoping on putting a new paintjob and lift kit as well. sorry i didnt specify. im a little new to forums. but i would like to spend the money on somthing that has great hp, and torq, good price, and isnt to far away from my gas mileage right now. a 427ci would be amazing dont get me wrong. but the amount i spend on that would be more then my car itself. thats kinda silly. but i never did think about supercharging it. thats a great idea. any other upgrades i should do? new cam shaft or somthing? im not great on engines. does anybody know if there are other toyota v8s that might fit in my 4runner?
 
I'm taking bets right now. 100:1 odds if he actually goes through with any kind of swap period or spends anywhere close to $10k.

i'd do that before you go to an engine swap, the surpercharged toyota engine is just below par for my 5.9L jeep i had which was the 4th fastest jeep ever made behind the str-8 series and the 5.7L hemi, that being said it should be more than enough for any reasonable means.

you really don't want to swap the engine out, you'll be alot happier with a completely tricked out truck with w superchargers than you would be with a truck with a sweet engine but none of the other goodies.


the supercharger you use is straight from the Tacoma trd's, i checked with my dealership and the price was about the same as i've seen around the net but i was just dreaming about doing that and didn;t look to hard

so if i had 10K i'd do this, in this order (note i said i would)

-supercharge -3K
-3-4 inch lift toytec or ss 1.3K
-tires 1K
-sliders 2oo
-arb front bumper or shrockworks 800-1.2K
-winch 400-700
-gears 4.88's 1K
-hood scoop -400
-powder coat my rims 200
-sick double din head unit 1K
-cb with whip 600 with custom install (i have a sick idea for this)
-ok ok new paint job 1.5-3K (for it to be done right and maybe something trick)
and then your over the 10K but i think that's a pretty good basic list to work from, now just google 4runner and whatever you're looking for from up there and it should be easy enough to track down.


-and this if i did get a new paint job..who knows how much and do you guys think it would work for wheeling? lol,

dude what is your deal. first you say that he would be better off supercharging it. then after i agree and give him some resources, you say "dude he's got 10k to drop, supercharging it is probably further down the list" and tell him to order the biggest engine he can fit. then you say you do not condone engine swaps. make up your mind so he can make up his
 
Don't go extreme... just swap in a 4th gen 4.0L V6. You'll have a lot more HP and still keep the excellent reliability AND fuel economy. Best of both worlds! I'm actually surprised that we don't see many of these swaps. If I still had my 3rd gen and its engine was getting tired, I'd seriously consider doing it.

i have 32" KM2 tires, and trailgear rocksliders and hood scoop. here are some pics, i think there b4 my sliders and new tires.

Good luck trying to keep the budget under $10k. You don't see many of them, because cost is astronomical. This is not a Civic B-series swap.
