Wanted 08' Black Headlights

Hi All,

Have a white 08' and wanted to get rid of the chrome headlights. I think black would look way better.

Any after market companies doing this mod or any members selling black headlights?

I've seen the oven bake threads, but not sure I want to play with silicone in my oven.

Thanks!

Just bake 'em! I bought some '06 lamps last week and baked/blacked them. And they look great on my white 4runner. Also, I don't think it's silicone, I believe it's another type of adhesive and there isn't a real strong smell (unless you overcook them) so I don't think too many toxins are released.

Blacked out '03-05 left, '06-09 right

That's a nice grill on the right - where'd you get that?

Not mine, the truck on the right is Autbond's old 4runner, mine is on the left. That is an old pic, I just put the '06 headlights in mine last week.

The grille is a satoshi mod, there are a bunch of threads on here about it. Basically you cut the insides of the grille out and replace it with black wire mesh and an FJ40 emblem. There are a few people who will do it for you as well, here and especially on tacomaworld.com. I think you can buy a very similar grill aftermarket for about $400-500, but it's much cheaper to do it yourself.

Also to carroll shelby - I think bowtie3 will blackout your headlights for you (for a fee, mostly shipping) if you send them to him. It's simple and I would offer to do it, but I don't have spare lights for you to use in the meantime.

Agreed, that grill is sick!

I'm interested in having someone black out my headlights. I'd buy a pair off ebay and ship them to whom ever is experienced in doing it.

If someone could let me know what they'd charge, that would be great!

I will do it, but I'll only do it with OEM headlamps. If you want to buy aftermarket replacements you can put them on your truck while I black out the OEMs.

I ruined a nice pair of depo aftermarket replacement lamps. The lens couldn't handle the heat and spiderwebbed on the inside and I wouldn't trust any other brand (besides oem) to do any better. I've done two OEM sets and it didn't happen with either of the OEM ones (the depo set was the 2nd set I did so it wasn't a first attempt error).

I'm fairly sure if you PM bowtie3 he has an extra set just to send people when he blacks them out or something along those lines.

Hey Matt,

What's the difference and added benefit between the 03 headlamp vs the 06 headlamps? Is it a direct replacement?

I prefer the brightness of HID bulbs and the projector in the '06 lamps is much better than the '03 reflector for HID bulbs.

You have to buy the filler panels that go under the lights but they fit directly.

There is also a small gap shown here if you don't use the '06 grille (the grille requires modification to fit but the headlights don't)

I have the lights in now but still have to modify the '06 grille on mine.

last time i emailed bowtie he said he wasnt doing them anymore, gaterose, if u have the time, maybe make some extra bucs doing them for members, i may need a set myself & dont have an oven large enough to fit them.

I'll do it for you Chaz, or anyone who wants it done, but I only have a crappy set of '03 lamps for others to use while I black theirs out.

Like I said before, I'll only cook OEM lamps. If you send me aftermarket lamps and they crack when I bake them, I'm not taking the blame.

i dont blame u, ive got blacked out on mine already so id just buy a new set of OEM & have em shipped to u if i did it. this would be my 3rd & a half full set since i bought the 4r in 07, some how they keep getting scratched up ,then the uv coating starts to peel. seems peoples butts r at the same height as the headlights & ive caught guys leaning up against it/them. next set im gonna try & find a place that installs laminx , put it on & hope their the last set i have to buy .if u can, let me know what the price would be & let me see how my funds goe in the next week or so, i may take u up on the offer, & THANKS in advance
