WANTED: Black Pearl Rear Emblem

Help finding a Black Pearl Rear Emblem

Gang, I would dearly love to get my hands on just the Toyota (symbol) emblem for the tailgate of my 'Runner (everything else has been taken off) in the oh-so-coveted Black Pearl color. I've done some Google-ing, however, I only see options for earlier 'Runners and other Toyota cars. Does anyone know if the emblem on the tailgate of the 4G 'Runners is the same size and shape as one of the currently-available options? Thanks so much for the help!!!

DIY-man got it done

Not that the responses were overwhelming (or any at all), but I went ahead and did it myself...I also added a quick layer or two of "reflective" spray that will make the logo light up like a bike reflector at night...

Tried it, doesn't work too well in the daylight - I figured I'd wait until it was dark out and see if I could work it out with a flashlight or something...I'll give it a shot and see!

OK here goes - not the best photographic setup, but if you look at the emblem itself you can see the little grains of reflective material glowing...also, if you compare to the first pic (above) you can see that it's "lit up" a bit...

Thanks! I suppose I am remiss in not detailing the steps I took. First, I sanded down the emblem using a 220 grit paper (to increase adhesion) - just did it by hand, nothing fancy. Then, I lay down two base coats using "Rust-O-Leum for Plastic" in a plain black color. Then, I lay two coats using (Rust-O-Leum) the "specialty reflective" clear coat, and then several (was getting late by that time...) coats of just plain clear coat (mine was Krylon, but any brand/style will do). Depending on where you're at (climate-wise), I was out in the garage (Northern Illinois) and I used a plug-in heater to speed drying, and didn't let it go more than 45 minutes or so between coats. All paints available at Home Depot. Basically, the long story short is that you can essentially paint your emblem any color you like, as long as you're careful when you spray and you allow enough time for curing (or use a heater like I did). The sky's the limit! Plus, the good news is that if you order a new emblem from PartzNet (less than 30 bucks) it comes COMPLETE with pre-placed adhesive, saving you a GINORMOUS pain in the bootie...well worth it if you ask me...

Absolutely - the alternative, if you don't want to have to reapply new 3M backing to the emblem once you remove it, you can order a fresh new emblem at Partznet for like 29 bucks. Comes pre-loaded with new peel-off backing...

3M backing? Is that just double-sided tape you can get at Home Depot or something? Just curious how that stuff holds up compared to the original adhesive method used.

Not cheap, but a hell of a lot cheaper than the "Pearl Black" ones or any other modified emblems that you can manage to find online. Also, when I thought about it, 29 bucks wasn't worth my time to peel and scrape all of the old adhesive off the emblem, and then reapply new adhesive and cut around the outline of the emblem with an x-acto knife...the new one comes ready to go - just paint it up and stick it on. As far as the double-sided tape, you can get it at any auto parts store, or probably something equivalent at Home Depot - it's basically the double-sided spong-ey stuff...hope that helps.

How do you remove the Toyota symbol(above the license plate) from the tailgate? Goo Gone? Fishing wire?? I tried heating it up and apply Goo Gone, but it did not budge. Maybe I should leave the Goo Gone on there for awhile?

I took the other badges off with ease awhile ago.

Go to a Hobby shop and buy Testors " Black Pearl". Ive seen Photos and it looks like the real thing. Oh Yea, make sure to clear coat after dry

I used rustoleum paint for plastic. I chose the "hammered black" and then put a couple clear coats on. 3M mounting tape to place back on. In regards to debadging and residue...goo gone barely worked. I dont think its that great of a product. I used to use a product called "Energine". It was an industrial grade spot remover but still safe on my old car's paint. I had to heat up the residual residue (haha) and rub with a towel, my finger, etc. to get it all off. Pain in the butt though it looks great now.

So the rear emblem on the 4 gen 4runners are just held on by adhensive, no screws or bolts?
