Wanted: Crisp start up, and quiet engine

Hey guys thank you for your replies to my intro a couple of days ago. I do have some very simple questions that I want to make sure are answered by someone more knowledgable than me. I currently own a 1996 4Runner SR5 3.4L V6 with 114k.

Startup
Well my startup is well... one that sounds like 114k worth of startups. I would like something crisp, and quick. Not the slow (start-start-start-start.... ruuuuun) My startup isnt struggling just a tad well... sad sounding. (lol does that make sense?) I'm looking for that quick (start-start-ruuuuuuun) Suggestions?

Engine Noise
Again the sounds that come from my engine are completely normal, I assume, for an engine that has 114,000 miles on it. It doesn't rattle like a diesel engine, but it is well... how do I put it? It just doesnt have that nice crisp, tight fitting engine/cylinder sound. Suggestions?

Now please don't think that I am such a fool that I do not understand the normality of these noises that are coming from my 4runner. I understand that these noises are completely normal. I am simply asking if there is a cheap way I can quiet my ride down, and perhaps protect it so I can hit 200k.

Thanks Everyone,
Drew

PS. I'm looking into purchasing a muffler from that berkman industires site. (sorry about the spelling) I do have to ask if that muffler will pass a smog check in the State of California? thanks again.

Startup - Get a new battery, it'll help your car start faster. I replaced my old battery with an otpima red top, and wow does it start up fast.

Engine Noise - Get a new exhaust system, that'll make the sound better. Or meaner at least.

Muffler - It depends what you mean, if your just adding a tip for the looks, it shouldn't matter as you dont do anything to your original muffler.

i agree with the new batter... i have a new optima yellow top deep cycle battery and it starts up a lot faster... i also heard that ground wires help a lot too... it will start and run a lot more smoother with a lot less stress
