Wanted know about a 2002 sport edt

Hi my name is jeff i am new to this forum but not new to the world of runners.
I have a 96 sr5 w/ a 146,000 miles on it 5 spd 4x4. My pops just bought a 99 limited w/ the locking diff on it. Next week I am going to look at a 2002 Sport edition 4x4 that I already placed a 300 (refundable) deposit on.
My ? is this I love the locker option, but from what i understand the locker was put in any 4R after 00? The 02 has a button next to the dimmer switch where the locking diff button would be. Button: show 4 wheels with a x on it. what is this and is it as god as the locking diff.
And how is this for a deal: 2002 4R sport Edition. 83000 miles, moonroof, that button? very clean paint looks great
I talked them down to $14,575 what do you think? please help answers are appreciated greatly here is a pic of the 4r and a pic of the button i was talking about

correction

i meant to say the locker was not placed in any 4r after 00. Here is another pic of the 4R i am going to look at.

The button is a center diff locker, so it goes 50/50 front rear. Not as good as the e-locker because you still basically have open diffs. They went to the VSC/TRAC on the later 3rd gen runners(after 00), so the rear locker was not an option anymore.

14K is a decent price.. it could be lower, but if it comes with a warranty or something, then its not that bad.

what do people think about the price?
Everywhere I look prices for this year runners are in the 18-20,000 i think i am getting a good deal thanks ahead of time for the input.

The miles are a tad high for the year but under $15k is a decent deal on an '02.

one other thing my 96 runs great when i fill up with cheap gas and i hit the gas sometimes it sputters like (it kind of jeks a little) i notice since i have been filling up with amocco still using 87 octane is has not been doing it any thoughts

Try replacing the fuel filter maybe?

well, i bought a 2002 sport edition in august of 2005. i think i mighta paid too much, but - i bought it from a toyota dealership and have a 100k mile warranty and free oil changes and stuff. plus, the thing is in mint condition. anyways, here were my numbers

2002 sport edition
59k miles
$20,500
100k mile warranty
toyota certified used vehicle

this was about what it was going for in kelly blue book, so i guess its not too bad. im sure some people have gotten this same deal for less :arrow:

You might have paid a little less from a private owner but with 40k more miles of warranty coverage and oil changes you didn't get ripped off.

Try replacing the fuel filter maybe?

I agree with Soap, that and maybe get the fuel injectors cleaned. My old Toyota Previa did not pass emission inspections this year and I had the fuel injectors clean and it runs a lot better and it passed with flying colors.
