Wanted to share a Deckplate tool with you

Hopefully not a repost - trying to give back to the community that has taught me so much in a short time.

Doing the deckplate mod tonight, I'd like a nice clean hole in my intake. Found this tool with GoogFu. Jealous of the US guys, Harbor Freight so much cheaper!

I'll post in this thread after I use the tool for a review.

I'll admit, I just used a dremmel cutting bit on my cordless drill. The deckplate has a 1/2 inch lip on it that hides my sloppy oval-shaped cut, shh....

Well. I'd say semi-success. Probably due to operator error. The tool would catch as it cut. You can see in the picture where it snagged and jumped out of the pilot hole. Kind of dangerous. I'd stick with jigsaw, or a 4.5" hole saw.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. The clean cut is strictly cosmetic/personal pride,and as [MENTION=115347]gamefreakgc[/MENTION] said, the lip will cover up plenty. I didn't have the luxury of piloting the hole for my deckplate mod, as the previous owner had already cut a hole and left it open. I had to just guess with a 4.5" hole saw and hope that I could hold it steady enough to make a decent cut. The tool itself seems like a good idea. Did you have any trouble with the outer bits moving from where you set them?

Honestly, one of the outer bits went flying off and could have hit my truck (don't care if it hits me). Maybe I didn't crank it down hard enough. I put it back on and finished the cut.

never mind...did a search....shows up to a 6hp gain....wonder if this means mpg gain too? that I did not read anyplace

No MPG's to be had here or at least that I have noticed.
