Wanting to get back in a 4Runner

In the market for a 11 SR5 pretty much loaded. I use to have 96 SR5 and like the new 5th gen! Talked to a couple of dealers via phone and email and neither sounded like they would hear of invoice. Looked at Edmunds and sticker for what I want is around 38500, TMV is 35500. Is this unrealistic?? One dealer said maybe come off 500 from sticker?? I do have a trade so I know that complicates things. Thanks!! Lookin toward to my new Runner I hope!!

Calling around in my opinion will usually get you nowhere. There is no skin in the game for you because you are not physically there to be sold. If they quote something over the phone, then you call the next guy and say this is what they will do. In person they have a chance to keep you there.

That said, yes, you can do much better. If you want to make real easy and haggle free go through COSTCO. They have a dealership per territory that are required to honor the negotiated price. For example before negotiations my fully loaded limited was at $500 over invoice per COSTCO and the dealership is required to show you their price per agreement. If you do not belong, sign up for $50 and your done! Depending on skills and inventory you can work them from there, especially if you have a trade.

Hope that helps :jump:

I've had my best luck over the years going through the fleet sales. The larger the metro area the better negotiating power. Specially with this economy

for $38500 you should be able to get a fully loaded limited...SR5's should be around 33k IIRC...about a 5k margin between them...The SR5 guys will fill you in on that better...

Negotiate on price first, then bring up the trade. Know what your trade-in is worth.

Try this website: cars.overstock.com (no www. in front). The 2011 T4Rs are going for a few hundred below invoice.
As for your trade-in, go to Carmax and get a quote. It's good for 7 days and it's free. Carmax almost always gives you more for your car than the dealership. You can use this as a trade-in bargaining tool. If the dealer can't beat it, then go sell your car at Carmax. As someone mentioned, DO NOT negotiate your trade-in before you negotiate a firm price on the T4R; it's "car buying 101"! The best way, though, is to sell it on your own if you don't mind the hassle.
