Warm start problems (2000 Limited 4x4 3.4) 175k

Hello,

Truck starts fine in the morning, after I turn it off for 10 min and try starting again, I have to give it gas otherwise it stalls. I am getting an oil change next sat and wanted to bring it to mechanic's attention. From reading the forums it looks like one of two things, either a dirty ICV (idle air control valve) or a faulty Engine Coolant temp sensor. I know others are experiencing similar issues but haven't been able to find a definite answer, please help.

I had a similar problem with my 99 sr5. Start right up 90% of the time, but once in a while when the engine was warm it would require a little bit of throttle to start. Sometimes it would fire until about 800rpm then stall. My friend at a toyota dealer did a fuel system cleaning in it. I'm not exactly sure of the details but it's a chemical treatment that removes carbon deposits. If I'm not mistaken it's actually a procedure and chemicals used by GM. (Much better than seafoam I've heard) Well the truck hasn't had a single issue since the cleaning which was 2 weeks ago. Maybe just carbon deposits that are "soaking" atomized fuel and not letting enough get into the combustion chamber when starting. Start simple and work from there.

Definitely worth looking into if that's what took care of your problem. Do you know if this is a standard procedure that toyota dealer can do or did your friend do you a favor? I'm kind of tired of dealing with this problem, it's been too long.

yes, I'm almost certain any toyota dealer can do the process. Might be worth a shot.
