Warn 8000 synthetic upgrade?

Hey guys, I have a Warn VR8000 on a hidden winch mount. I honestly never use the winch as I don't offroad much anymore, but I'm thinking about upgrading the steel cable and rusty roller lead for a synthetic cable and aluminum hawse lead. Given that the unit sees little to no use, but might in a pinch, what would you recommend for a cheap synthetic upgrade?

Also, Warn states that the stock VR8000 comes with a 94 foot 5/16" cable. I assume that I should stick with a 5/16" replacement cable, up to 100'?

Unused winch

Take that unused 85 pounds of gear out of your front end and store it in your garage. It's just dead weight you're hauling around. Or sell it.

I'd consider that, but I live in a heavy snow belt. And a semi-rural area, so that's where the "might need it in a pinch" comes in.

As far as I'm concerned when you need a winch, nothing else will really do..shop around..bought my synthetic on ebay, 95ft for about $130, included the rock card for the line and an aluminum hawse fairlead. This is used on my offroad rig and I abuse it, so for casual in a pinch it will be fine..

if you want to spend the $$, check out the Amsteel blue stuff, it's supposed to be really good. that will be what I switch to when my current line goes..

You admittedly never use it, but you want to upgrade? Sounds like you've used the same logic as my wife.

Why 'upgrade' if you never use it?

Save your money.

When I upgraded from steel to synthetic I found there were a few types of synthetic. Some are OK with sun exposure. Others not so much. I ended up buying line from my local Offroad shop and paid a little extra for lifetime no question asked warranty.

There are better lines that cost double. Lifetime warranty was hard to turn down (4wheel Parts).
