Warning for New Forum Members...

Although registration is free, the more you read this forum, the more you are likely to spend or mod your truck. It's a slippery slope and the addiction is real.

I joined knowing I wanted a lift. And tires. I thought I was content/good with everything else. However, after browsing through the forum, I now want UCA's (dependent on lift), sliders, skids, a new bumper, winch, deep cycle vs a 2nd battery, air compressor, diff/elocker breather mod, and under-seat sub-woofer. For now. With my new add-on list, I am kinda glad there's no supercharger available, although I do hear it's being released very soon...

So just thought this warning should get out there for the new joiners. If you're easily influenced or tempted, you should close your browser.

Also, make sure you use the search bar in the upper right corner before posting your questions. Some of the old guys on here seem to get tired of answering the same questions over and over. And over. It's also a good way to keep all of the same info together. So that easily influenced people like me can make our to-do lists even quicker.

Ta da.

don't use that search bar, use the "alternative search"

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-g...te-search-toyota-4runner-5th-gen-section.html

before you do that make sure you have several hours free. the guys on here seem to think that is a magic machine that takes you right to what you need to know

then after 5-6 days of spending a few hours soaking in all the knowledge that was posted in the golden days when you were allowed to ask questions, feel free to post you question to be answered by one of us stupid noobs who don't know anything yet dare to actually type something useful rather than some shitty reply

While it may seem that way, sometimes it is simply senior members' desire to chuckle since there are literally pages and pages and pages of basic lift and tire questions. However, I do remember what it is like to be new and I and many others are willing to answer basic questions when it doesn't come off as lazy. Sometimes the wrong person gets flamed, but this is the nicest and most helpful group of forum truck guys I have found.

OP. I was only going to do a small lift and some wheels.... yeah, that escalated quickly. :welcome:

I know the "old guys" catch a lot of grief from their directed responses. However I find many of the "old guys" spent a lot of time doing the research, putting answers to commonly asked questions in their footer and sharing some good advice that have saved many newbies like me a lot of dough and grief. :smashputer:

Seriously . . . if the worst "old guys" do is ask new members to use the search tool, can we at least acknowledge the benefit we've all gained from the "old guys" spending their time sharing the research along with the mistakes and successes made over the years? :sobbing:

Personally it's the "old guys" posts I read first . . . that's where I learn the most.

Besides . . . the term "old guy" really isn't accurate, it's my understanding 2014 Warthog is the only "old" member. :crutch:

I too fell victim of the Mod addiction, and have with other cars too.

I was originally just going to do a small lift and wheels and tires, keep it simple.

Well we al know that did not happen. And I still have some mods to do.

I was gonna keep mine completely stock and only use it to get to remote fishing spots. It's still mostly stock, except for the mods.

Seems some people get really butthurt about being told to search, but it isn't that difficult really. I mean, you probably searched Google just to find this forum in the first place...

When I bought the 4Runner I told Wifey the only thing I wanted to do was tint the windows and she rolled her eyes.
So I did.

Damn woman was right again. I hate that.

I heard sp8ball did most of your mods...

$1.5k Roof Rack and Ladder. You NEED one of these. Yes it makes no sense at all for what I do with my T4R, but man, I swear I think about getting one every day.

Mooney nailed it. Nailed it. I've been a member here since 2005 and I only have about 400 posts. Most of my posts are just engaging in simple conversation between other member because we all share a common interest, the other 30% I like to think are helpful. New members seem to think that if they cant find it here then it doesn't exist anywhere else because this is a 4Runner forum. To be honest, a lot of the information I have learned over the years is from multiple sites and picking up the phone and calling a 4 wheel shop or walking into one and speaking to someone face to face. Many guys have spent a lot of money learning the hard way and many have spent hundreds of hours grinding, welding, screwing, bolting etc.. learning by trial and error. It's not that the older guys hate "noobs" it's just that when someone new creates a post about "what tires, what shocks, what rack, what bumper, what oil" it's irritating because there are hundred of others like it and nobody on this planet has a 4Runner that was built to a different spec than what the millions of other 4Runner owners have. An early or late model 5th Gen black 4Runner is the same thing as another persons early or late model 5th Gen black 4Runner and a set of BFG's with Konig Six-Shooters will look the same on every one of them. Not giving a shit about educating oneself is what drives people crazy. This type of "flaming" will never stop unless the mods issue a ban warrant to the next person who does it but to be honest, some people deserve it.

New tires, new lift, I'm done. Not everyone falls victim to the curse.

The roof rack was actually my first purchase!

Perfect place pelican, underwater kinetics, storm-hardigg cases, roof top tent, scepter fuels and water cans..... or just to stand on, chill and sun-tan!

If you're that guy who can truly eat just one potato chip then God bless you. I woke up 11 years later covered in chips and I'm still not full yet.

Weird, for some reason I thought 4x4 labs stuff was stock :noidea:

Don't tell my wife cause I told her they messed on ours at the dealer and I was supposed to have front and rear bumpers. I need to get that fixed.
