Warning for those who have Hitch Mount Cargo Platform.

Just as title says: if you have Hitch Mount Cargo Platform and you have original exhaust (straight pipe on the back) be very careful not to burn anything that you have loaded in cargo platform on the right (exhaust) side.

I went hunting this weekend… it was not great, but I got a whitetail doe and she was loaded on the platform… By the time I got home (1 hour and 25 minutes) small part of her back got “cooked”. :lmao:

I guess this was an extra option of 4-th gen 4runners… :beer:

Just wanted to share.

P.S. Since I am not going to install aftermarket exhaust or reroute exhaust to the side… I am planning to add a little plate to that side of the Cargo Platform that will reflect hot exhaust from blowing on the cargo.

Good info. I had not yet mounted my cargo platform on mine yet. I will definitely be aware. Nothing like travelling 10 hours into the Rockies to be with family for Christmas, and their presents looking like burnt toast.

Why not spend $60 and have the exhaust exit out the side? Best pit stop on my way home from work I ever made! Of course, you would loose the exhaust jerky option... No noise increase, fresh air from the rear window, and no power loss.

The side exhaust change was the best $40 ever spent on my truck. Love having the ability to enjoy the back window as I did on my 1st and 2nd gen, not to mention not getting choked out while hooking up a trailer or mounting my bike rack.
