warped brakes

Hello folks

I have a 2006 sport that is warping front rotors. It was my wife's car before I got it so I attributed it to her driving. Well I replaced the rotors and pads with factory parts and 5000 miles later they are warped again. The car is driven in town 99% of the time without any towing since the replacements. I bled the brakes as well thinking that might help and got a bubble from the right rear caliper but it was fairly small.

The old rotors are getting turned this week and I will put them on if I can come up with a probable fix. If not there is no point in wasting the time.

What do you think I can do to help?

Keep 2 sets of rotors and get them turned and replace once the others warp. I do this with my 04 Runner and my 06 Matrix. Put 55k on 4runner all highway before I started towing my boat then it would warp randemly. Once I sold the boat I thought the issue would be gone but no, it happened again. The Matrix is a traffic beatter and every now and again it will warp a rotor too. I get my rotors turned for $5 a piece off the vehicle so not a big deal for me to pull them and swap them myself. If you want to not do this, spend the extra coin and upgrade the rotors to way better than stock and don't worry about them again. I just haven't done so yet due to cost, but when I had my Corvette I put on high end front rotors (as these will be the ones that warp) and never had a problem after warpping the stock ones. I think it is the city driving. My 2 cents.

Brake Options

I did a lot of research about this issue myself. I bought my first 4runner about 3 or 4 months ago and I noticed a slight shake when braking from the beginning. It's a 2004 SE V6 4x4. Over time it got worse and I knew it was the front rotors that were causing it.

Our trucks are notorious for frozen calipers, so you should definitely look into this first. If it's a frozen piston in the caliper, you'll probably be better off replacing the whole caliper from the get go. Many people go with the Tundra calipers as an upgrade, though I didn't do that on mine.

I ordered new slotted and cryogenically treated rotors from PowerSlot and got some decent Wagner ceramic pads to go along with them. When I got into the wheelwells, I was prepared to replace the calipers if I found issues there. Luckily, I didn't have any frozen pistons, so it was a simple swap of new rotors and pads. I have about 10k miles on the new setup and there's no sign of shaking. Braking distance and fade has been greatly improved as well.
