Warped rotors at 34k?

After feeling much vibration on my 2010 4 runner I took it into the dealer. They told me that my front and rear brakes still had some life (6mm) but that my front rotors were warped and needed to be turned ($150).

Why would they warp under normal driving? Im a bit gun shy after the brake problems and recalls my Titan had some years ago. Anyone know if this is a production issue?

Couldn't the dealer just machine the rotor? Should be free ...

Could be bad rotors from the factory. Main reason I drive Toyota's is because Jeep had warped rotors on 3 out of 4 Grand Cherokees that I drove. And guess who had to pay? Jeep refused to warranty the rotors!

After some digging around I found that there was a known problem with the manufacturing process - the rotor manufacturer, the caliper manufacturer and Daimler/Chrysler argued over who was at fault. Long story short...a class action suit ensued from it by the time I got rid of my last Jeep.

If it's not caused by operator malfunction then, to be on the safe side, I would replace the rotors...not turn them down! That's just me.

Warpped Rotors

It only takes a few high speed stops and even the best stock rotors will warp. Now that they have warped go ahead and have them turned. Once they have warped then they are pretty stable. They only thing to watch is keep them above minimum thickness because a thinner rotor will not absorb as much heat a a thicker one. "Or" you can do what I do and that is to save the cost of turning and then put it towards a new set of rotors. I really doubt that you have bad rotors.
