Warped Rotors

Had the shudder / steering wheel shake for about 6K miles now. 26K on the truck now. Is this sort of thing under warranty passed 12K miles ? Need to decide on dealer/warranty try, other shop, or just replace them myself - maybe upgrade them and the pads.

Your opinion on my options is appreciated.

Im not sure if the dealer will replace a set of rotors. That is one of those parts expected to wear out sort of thing. The rotors are super easy to change. Just unbolt the caliper (2 bolts) hang it on the frame with a coat hanger. You do this so you don't break the ABS line and over stretch the brake line. Now you should be able to pull/wiggle the rotor off and install in reverse order.

See if you can get the dealer to replace under warranty. Brake rotors are usually considered "wear" items and not covered, but 12K seems pretty early to have to replace.

But like hossmaster said, if you want to do it yourself, it isn't a hard job.

I had warped rotors and the dealer cut them for me for no charge. I doubt you'll get new rotors out of them but they should at least turn them for you.
