Warranty on body rust not frame

Hey guys,

I've searched the forum and seen that I'm not the only one with rust building around the chrome on my rear door. I have a 07 runner with 50 000 miles. I took my car to the dealership to see if they would warranty it. Body rust is only warrantied for 3 years 60000 kms in Canada. Unfortunatley I am not covered. The service manager told me I could take it up with Toyota Canada, but I will probably get the same results as him. I wish he would just pass my warranty through, but apparently service managers can only warranty a certain amount of $. Once it's over his limit (whatever it is) he has to put it through with the big guys. Has anybody been in a similiar situation and found a solution? Thanks ahead of time!!

I know in the US the rust has to eat completely through the metal before it is a warranty issue. Surface rust is not covered under the corrosion warranty, but we get 7 years not 3.

I thought it was 5 years (60 mo), not 7?

I'm having a similar issue with rust on my moonroof frame. In my case the rust is through the metal. The service manager said it's not covered.


I'm gonna call Toyota to see about getting it fixed.

BTW, mine is an 07 with 44K miles

In my case the dealer is fixing it no charge, but I have an extended warranty.

There is a TSB for the problem - seems to be a clip issue though I had assumed it was because the chrome surround was clunking against the paint work everytime the tailgate was closed.

I'm sure you are correct, for some reason I thought I remembered 7.

Wow, so they still have the same issue since way back in 2006?
Seems like it's a well known issue by toyota.

They had a tsb for 06-07 models
Mine is a 11 model and no TSB yet?
