I'm not an expert on this... But my understanding is that ext warranty does not cover market value of a repair like a mfg warranty... and does therefor not have to pay for new or original parts...
In other words, if you blow up your motor or tranny they have a set max amount they will pay... If the market value for the repair is more than that (almost always is with a Toyota) it comes out of your own pocket... I've never purchased one and probably never will. If you do, spend the time to read all the fine print. They make tons of money off extended warranties for a reason.

I was considering the toyota extended warranty as well, but mainly for the electronics.
Would anyone advise on what to do because I have the automatic running boards, and all the other electronics that come with the car. We plan on keeping the car for the long run, so wouldn't it be worth it for the warranty?

I'm normally not one to buy into extended warranties either, however with Toyota's factory extended warranty prices, its good piece of mind for me.

It's an old price list that used to be posted around here that represents warranty pricing close to dealer cost I believe.
You shouldn't have to pay more than these rates.

if I can get it within 100-200 of this pricing, I usually go with a in state dealer. comes out to the same price if I was to travel out of state to get one.
15 camry 7/100 was 1000
14 rav4 7/100 was 1050
14 4runner 7/125 was 1350

I just posted info on some Certified Platinum Toyota warranties on another thread. These are purchased while still within your factory warranty as far as I know.

Just saw your post as well. My dealer locally matches the prices posted for factory extended warranties. As far as I know, he's still selling to anyone interested out of state as well

I would guess price varies by s to ate, here in nj I just paid about 1500 for 5 year platinum on a certified, already used 350 getting a new satellite antennae and key.

The warranty deals I posted are available throughout the U.S., with exception to 2-3 states who have hokey laws...I believe NJ is one of those states
