I just bought an '88 4runner with 125k miles. mild rust on both fenders on the passenger side. one owner never had the top off and the regulator for the rear window is missing a few teeth so the window wont go up all the way. other than that the engine runs great and the body(besides the little rust) is in great shape. i paid $3k for it and was just wondering if i got a good deal.
oh yeah its a 5 speed 4cyl. 2.4 i think.

It is good that Edmunds came up with some numbers, but honsestly a car that old it is basically up to the condition of the vehicle. I would think about a third to a half of the 88's are no longer around, either crashed or junked. The mileage is low which I suspect is why it is $3,000. So if you got a good running 88 and it runs for a couple years then yes, it was a good deal.

I once sold a Honda with 260,000 miles and had about $800 worth of work needed which I told the new owner (both CV joints were clicking) and he bought a $500 car for $300 and to my way of thinking he made a bad decision.

thanks, any idea how to tighten the side mirrors... mine go out of wack on any bump and my yota manual i bought doesnt really say anything about it.

Since you have an '88 with 125k miles, I might adjust them to where I like them and shoot some liquid nails or something behind the mirror. Not a lot, just enough to tack it in place. I'd do it in some place where you could crack the adhesive and move the mirrors at a later date if you needed to. You probably aren't going to be selling this 4Runner anytime soon and since you only paid $3k for it I wouldn't be worried about hurting resale.
