As some of you might know my wife and I are moving to Spokane, WA. I have never lived that far north but my wife has (Montana). She wanted me to ask if ya'll use block heaters on your vehicles in the winter like she did in Montana. Thanks for the input.

Post what you learn... I am actually considering one of the type that circulates the coolant.

Playing with my mpg meter I have discovered for the first 4-5 miles on a cold engine (Florida cold which isn't even cold) sucks the gas! If I drive the route on a warm engine my meter will show 3-4mpg higher.

I figure if I set a timer to warm the engine for 30min prior to leaving for work it'll add up. Will it add up to offset the cost? I don't know yet.

Might be a good idea. Seattle has a mild wet winter, but Spokane is a hell of a lot colder. Lows are usually in the twenties, but it can get down to zero.

Thanks for the help. I can't wait until we move. It sounds like there are more trails there then here in Missouri. Not to mention I have always wanted to see Canada.
