What's goin on fellas, I have been reading these forums for a while and decided to finally sign up since you guys are full of useful knowledge.

I just had one question before my pics, where can I find information about moving the shocks to the axle on my first gen? cant seem to search for information.

Welcome to forum. I'm new here too but I'm really glad I joined. These folks have been a huge help.

Awesome pictures. Nice to see a 4Running doing what it does best. I don't know anything about moving shocks but I'm sure someone here can help.
 
from what i have read if you move the rear shocks to the top of the rear axle you can get better flex out of it, considering ill be buying some heavy duty bilsteins i would like to do this mod.
 
Mine are mounted to the vertical front and rear of the axle housing and in the stock positions on the frame.

I guess the simple answer is is "It depends on your shocks and your lift." You cant flex your rig past the limitations of you shocks. Your toy needs to stop flexing before your shocks bottom out or shock damage can occur.
So I guess you need to get your shocks, measure them, then flex your truck both directions and get a measurement, then you have a basis as to where to properly attach your shocks.

Your bump stops should stop it about half an inch before they bottom and your spring should stop it before it tops out.

You have an IFS rig there anyway, I wouldn't worry about flex (cos your limited by the physics of your truck) and throw some lockers in your difs, as long as you have traction who cares if your lifting tires in the air?

Yes I made it through, multiple times, I had about 5 jeeps watching me do it and none of them would attempt it after :)

Nice 4runner man. I agree with not worrying about the shocks, and getting a rear diff. I'm hoping to pick up an Aussie next month for my rear.
 
Welcome aboard. nothing better then the looks on jeep guys faces when they see a 20+ year old bone stock toyota do something they can't, or wont. I've seen that face a few times in Moab. :)

I have a video of that mud pit that a guy with a jeep was taking, he was filming fine but once i got half way through the pit he didnt move the camera and started watching with his head so you cant see me finish it, he wasnt expecting me to make it :)
 
Nice runner, I kind of wish I'd have opted for a 1st gen instead of my 2nd, oh well. I'm new around here as well but have already found this site to be very helpful.

welcome! yea my brother HAD a 2nd gen... that 3.0... wow, did toyota pay chevy to build an engine or something? what happend there...
