Watch 1st or 2nd, you will like it. I cannot leave home without mine. It has been on my wrist for over a year...never going back to my old watches.

There's something old school and elegant about having an "old school" watch. But like you allude to, the iwatch is just more useful. I would love that and use it.
So then, now I play the waiting game with apple:....................

Smart move. No point of getting Gen 1 now unless you like the discounts on Gen 1. (BestBuy has $200 off on 38mm stainless steel/sapphire model...that's a great buy if you're on a budget.)
Otherwise, i am sure that Gen 2 will be pretty darn nice.

As far as I remember with the rumors and such, the next gen iWatch wasn't supposed to be completely free of a "tethered' iphone, but at least it could be used independently for GPS, temp, barometer sensors. But as a stand alone device, I never expected that.
The article does't go into details (surprise surprise, Apple won't say), but it would be interesting to see what functions aren't working out to make it a more independent device.

Who knows?! But it pretty much ASSUMED that the next gen will have on-board GPS, but no LTE/3G modem. Battery life being a major issue. It makes sense. Remember, when using Watch for exercise, your Heart Rate sensor is working CONSTANTLY because it has to be accurate...and now you add in GPS for location, which drain battery even more...these two along with normal function of a Watch (texts, notifications, alarms etc.)...enough to put stress on a TINY battery.
And now, you want to make calls too with a separate 3G/LTE modem! I am not surprise that Apple went away from 3G/LTE modem!
I hope that Apple NEVER adds in the 3G/LTE modem in near future.

It's great!! Basically, it fixed everything that was less-than-good about Gen 1. Waterproofing is quite impressive. Brighter display is especially good if you get the models with sapphire crystal (which transmit less light than regular glass). GPS as we discussed above.
I will NOT upgrade my Watch because my AW1 still works great esp with WatchOS3. I am saving funds for maybe 7 PLUS 256 GB to replace my 5s.

AW2 is the best smart watch on the planet...by a looonnnnggg shot. The question i have is...how does Apple improve on this?! LTE/3G radio I guess and a redesign I guess...but I can't think of another thing that needs to improve with AW2.

Doesn't look like the 2 comes with a barometer (thus altimeter). Not a deal breaker (for me)
