go to your local store handle fine timepiece , preferably with magnifying glass better yet loupe, you`ll see that there is no imperfection on any Patec JLC, rolex, Omega, etc then ask for Tag, then for seiko ( grand seiko not included)
you`ll see the difference. naked eye- all good, 10magnification and you`ll see what quality means. maybe you definition of quality is different and you only interested in timekeeping and decent looks, well then you will never be a watch guy. good enough is not enough.

I don't think that you have to do all that. Fit and finish. Bracelet design & quality. Sapphire, yes or no. Quality of movement.
The problem is that hikenbike has barely any experience with watches, much less quality watches. He is typical of fanboys. I had hoped that he would filter out the fanboyism on the watch forums that he is reading. This is why I brought up the Civic owner example earlier.

Civic example was not all that correct, go to diymobileaudio forum and take a look what people done with civics, audio vise.
I wouldn1t take 7 bmw for free, so as any audi nor benz. I owned way to many of them to never again.
hikeandbike was asking for knowledge but failed to accept it, how sad.
People only ask for approval not advise, if you approve their decision they happy if not what the heck do you know. never learn from someone else mistakes, just have to make their own, that old Seiko is perfect example.

And "fanboy"? Where did that crap come from? The fanboys are the Tag owners with the crown that won't screw down and say "oh, it's ok. I still love my Tag" while some hack in NJ takes his 6 weeks to fix it. And then all over again a year later.
The fanboys are the BMW owners whose cars are "drivers" cars, have fine leathers, wood trimmings, high technology, sensors for when you need to take a dump, and yet can't keep them on the road long enough to use any of it. BMW customers have great relationships with their service advisors because they see each other often.

If the core basics of any product aren't bulletproof, then it is worthless.

First of all, I think that you and Vict missed my point on the Civic analogy. It does NOT have to be a BMW. It could be Lexus, Ferrari, etc.. The idea that an owner of a lesser vehicle calling out the more expensive product as being the same due to vague similarities (such as both having an gasoline engine) is downright embarrassing and shows lack of knowledge.
Hikenbike, I think that you miss the point on fanboyism. It applies both ways. Yes, a Tag owner in denial about the crown issue is fanboyism. BUT, a Seiko 5 or Orient owner who thinks that his watch is just as high quality as a Patek or Rolex or Omega is equally (if not more) delusional. You may want to think about that.
The problem with you is that you barely know what a watch is and yet make these grandiose claims on the matter...geez, you sound like Stanley from earlier in this thread!
Look up what I wrote before about the fancier automatics of the world. Things like a full bridge for balance wheel, screws for regulation, coaxial, silicone parts, and Breguet overcoil, etc. make a difference in both function and price.
