watches...

Fossils are not very durable or reliable. My wife goes through 2-3 a year. I keep wanting to buy her a Rolex but she's insistent on the little fashion jewelry watches.

I figure 300 bucks on Fossils a year will eventually add up, tho.

The specs are the specs and the package includes 3 bands. Seems pretty impressive as a step up from their normal offerings for this brand. They are obviously huge with vast resources so putting together a high quality piece in an attempt to raise the ceiling for that brand is easy for them.

Thinking of it as "same old, same old" could be a mistake. Interested to see how it is received and performs.

Fossil sticks their name on accessories. Watches, purses, cheap jewelry, wallets, sunglasses...

Rolex? They make watches.

Actually, looks very much like the Helson Spear diver.....vintage, classy...... for $150 more.... and the Helson also comes with bracelet and rubber.....

watches are for wearing

My favorite. Absolutely Waterproof. Beefy screw down crown. I beat the sh*t out of it. Owned it for 25yrs. I always have it on. It keeps perfect time. Needs a new battery every 5-6 years. The offset crown is a feature I will never live without because it such a comfortable and functional design.
This particular style SHC003, also called the Pepsi watch bc of bezel colors, is no longer made. I really like the round shape with simple lugs, as opposed to the much more common elongated style like a Rolex where the case and lugs are one piece. I prefer a larger watch.
Black single piece nylon band. When a pin inevitably fails the watch stays attached to the strap by the other pin.
Oh yeah, the second hand hits the hash marks exactly spot on, every single one since day one.

thanks. hopefully more. the movement is replaceable, as is the crystal. the color ring on the bezel is replaceable via aftermarket supplier or restorable by a guy know as yobokies (seiko boy backwards) in london. As long as the case holds up i think i'm good for my lifetime.

I like how simple and indestructible it looks. How accurate is the automatic movement?
I ask because I have what I consider to be a nice Tag Heuer 6000, officially certified automatic chronometer blah blah. I expected it to keep perfect time, like my seiko. After all, it is a 'finer' watch, i.e. much more expensive, a chronometer with a movement officially certified by the ***** institute.
It keeps poor time. Sent to ProTime/TAG Service Center for service and adjustment twice, came back just the same both times. Turns out it was operating within spec; the spec is -4 to +6 seconds/day. Chronometer is the highest standard and it allows a 10 second swing daily. Lets assume it gains 5 seconds/day, 1+ min every 2 weeks, 2.5 minutes/month. I am supposed to pay $***** for the privilege of resetting my watch twice a month? Plus, it is supposed to be serviced every few years at a cost of a few hundred $.
I like the sweep second hand but had I known how inaccurate it is allowed to be I would have gone for the quartz one.
I had the automatic movement removed and replaced with a quartz movement.
I like the idea of wearing a high end watch. I like the way this one looks. I cannot wear a watch that is so unreliable, regardless of how high or how low the cost.
I notice most of the high end and boutique sport watches, while nicely designed, are all automatics. My brother has an Omega Seamaster Titanium chronometer which he says is spot on since day one.
What has been your experience?
Anyone else?

Is it just me or is anyone else also was waiting for a punch line that never came! :hail:

Did the other folks that you talk to (including the watchmaker who replace your automatic movement with a Quartz) laugh hysterically at you during this whole time? You are the love child of the quartz revolution in the 1970s!

I know what you wrote is meant as a joke...but I fear that it is not....

P.S.: My 6 year old son's Spiderman $5 watch is more accurate than my Rolex...anyone here want my Rolex for $3?? (I can't sell it for $5 because that would be highway robbery since I know for a fact that a $5 watch outperforms it.)

PS#2: Your Tag 6000 is a very nice watch! A lot of history behind it, including the reason why it is so original. I am sad to see that it was ruined by someone who did not do his research beforehand.

I still wish that modern watches were less blingy. Everything these days is gold, chronometer, GMT, tourbillon, air speed... I don't need all that garbage. I want a simple white on black watch that I can look down at and immediately tell the time, without having to squint at 10 dials and bright shiny bling. Something that can take a bath in seawater and be dropped on concrete and not skip a beat or lose some of its precious value.

I have yet to find a more understated watch than my Submariner, and that thing is older than I am.

Also, Thai, you are a bigger watch geek than my dad--and that's saying a lot.

Yeah, i agree. Readability is important. I got my wife a blue-faced watch once...big mistake! You can't read the damn thing, esp. outside under the sun! This is why my current Rolex is white faced, which is very easy to read under any condition.

I would love to have something like Sub, but my wrist is too damn small! :( Maybe i need to eat at McDonalds more! 40-42 mm is too big for me. Luckily, i got my Turn-o-graph before Rolex discontinued it...and it is perfect at 36mm. Rolex cases make it look bigger than measurements...so, this works out well. My Seiko SKJ076 is 38mm and that is about as big as i can go before looking ridiculous.

Recently, with the need to see the time at night (without glasses), i am wearing my Seiko more because the whole face is Superluminova...so, even in the early morning, i can read the time perfectly! My Rolex stick hands don't glow long and are dead by mid night. I also recently found a very comfy Silicone band for my Seiko that makes it very comfortable and ligthweight (it weighs half of my Rolex).

Your fear is justified.
You are the love child of the quartz revolution in the 1970s!
I am also a fan of fuel injection.
I am sad to see that it was ruined
I have the original movement. It is reversible. My watch serves me, I don't serve it. I have improved it. I get the aesthetics with the accuracy.
by someone who did not do his research
1st, it was a very thoughtful present from a very wonderful young lady. 2nd, it is a high end watch with the highest accuracy certification there is.
Did the other folks that you talk to (including the watchmaker who replace your automatic movement with a Quartz) laugh hysterically at you during this whole time?
huh?

sarcasm?
A watch has only two functions, telling time and aesthetics. If I wanted a piece of man jewelry I would have bought a chunky gold bracelet.
I would not pay 3-10 times more for a less accurate firearm just because of the way it looks.
I thought I was acquiring a watch that would be more owner friendly and perform at a higher level than my Seiko. It is self winding. It is a certified chronometer, etc. Turns out the ownership experience is expensive, very expensive. It must be serviced every few years at a cost of ? hundred $ a pop. The constant upkeep and tending to undermines the pleasure of use and ownership, which is an odd thing to pay a premium for when it does a worse job at its primary raison d'être.
I intentionally withheld my opinion of Rolex and the people who buy them because to each his own and and so forth etc blah blah, but since you brought it up as a point of comparison here you go. I think Rolex's are over hyped, over priced, and underperform. They are not special or unique. They are ubiquitous. Rolex artificially limits the supply to create the illusion of exclusivity. When I see someone with a Rolex I think to myself "that guy is a fool, he way overpaid for a clunky watch that doesn't keep very good time". You cannot go anywhere they aren't. Big deal, you own a Rolex, so does the (very nice) guy who just tinted my two front windows.

Dude, you're making an ass of yourself...i suggest that you move on. And this is me being very kind.

Read up on the stuff that you just spewed. You have your opinion. That's cool dude. Rolex are crap. Rolex owners are idiots too! We are all idiots in this thread! Happy?

To some, a Seiko is overpriced, underperforming, and overhyped watch too! A Timex or Casio can do everything Seiko can...and since it is cheaper, it is disposable! My kid's $5 spiderman watch is a much better value than your Seiko...and his came with a spiderman wallet to boot!! THAT is value!

I do like what you wrote about your cherished Seiko above...all it takes is a new movement, new crystal, and new bezel! Dude, that is the whole freaking watch! :D Who the hell cares about your banged up case lasting?! That's hilarious! I laughed and cried so hard when you wrote that...thanks!

Anyways, i am glad that you ruined your Tag 6000 to your pleasure. I am glad that you think Rolex are crap. We're cool. The difference is that you don't have a clue about what you're talking about. Move on.

No sarcasm. Did you not read what i posted about your watch above? Yes, you indeed ruined your watch's value and heritage. You may not care, which is fine. It is like a 4runner 4wd owner taking out the 4wd system to convert it to a 2wd vehicle simply because he wants the fuel economy of a 2WD car.

take a midol and a deep breath, dude.

How kind you think you are or are not being is completely irrelevant to me. Behave however you choose to behave. Your behavior reflects upon you and no one else. You will learn this as you mature.
Use more exclamation points.

My cherished Seiko does not need anything but a new $10 battery every 5-6 years. It has been on my wrist (almost) every single day for 25 years. It still keeps perfect time, the second hands still hits the hash marks dead center, it is still waterproof, it is still functioning perfectly. It does not need a new crystal, or a new movement, or a new bezel. It still has the original gaskets (I think). I would like to get the bezel insert replaced for cosmetic reasons. Same with the crystal. If, at some point in the future, the movement fails or needs repair I believe I will be able to have it repaired or replaced with an equally robust and reliable movement for a reasonable price.
The case is the core element of every watch. Its shape is the central aesthetic feature. It is the thing that contains all the working parts. As long as I can replace or repair anything else - the crystal, the bezel insert, the crown, the movement, the hands - I will be happy. I think a reasonable argument can be made that the case is the watch while everything else is secondary.
I wear my watch. It is not some pseudo heirloom sitting in my dresser drawer.
I think it is a better looking watch than a Rolex, which are often clunky and chunky and showy. Again, to each his own. You raised your ownership of a Rolex as an object of comparison.
It is like a 4runner 4wd owner taking out the 4wd system to convert it to a 2wd vehicle simply because he wants the fuel economy of a 2WD car.
No, it is not.
Removing the 4x4 and replacing with 2x does not increase the utility of the truck. It decreases it.
Replacing a less reliable, less accurate, less robust, high maintenance movement with one which is more reliable, more accurate, more robust and requires essentially zero maintenance increases its utility.
Try to avoid non analogous analogies. The only points they successfully illustrate are your lack of intellect and inability to actually reason, further exemplified by your sophomoric rant.
We're cool
No, we aren't. There is no 'we'.
Rolex are crap. Rolex owners are idiots too! We are all idiots in this thread!
I used the word 'fool' but 'simpleton' suits you, Dude.
