Water in cabin after carwash

In the years I've owned the 4th gen I've never gone through the automatic carwash until today. It was the kind where you drive up, put the vehicle in neutral and it guides you through the wash.

After going through the wash I heard a loud slurping sound and noticed there was a small amount of water that had come through and dripped onto my center console.

Is this the sunroof drain functioning properly or should I be worried about a failing gasket?

Could be a clogged sunroof drain, you might want to check and just make sure the sunroof is completely closed. I know with my sunroof, even with a messed up gasket it still drained properly. In my case, I ended up replacing the entire assembly since Toyota doesn't sell the gasket by itself.

I'd make sure it's lined up properly and pour a bit of water over to see what's going on. If you can have a friend pour the water, then you can watch what's going on.

If you haven't done it yet, completely cycle the sunroof and make sure the weather stripping isn't folded or damaged.

If it doesn’t leak in rain, is it possible that the high pressure spray just forced some water past the weatherstripping?

I'd think this is possible, I know this is the case with my Volvo, it wont leak under normal driving/rain conditions, but in a car wash like the OP said it will leak a bit likely from the extra pressure.

Went outside today and took a closer look at the sunroof.

The gasket looks surprisingly good for being 11 years old, didn't see any signs of the rust issues around the gasket that has plagued other members. The sun roof was undoubtedly fulled closed and it doesn't leak in the rain.

I think the high pressure spray pushing past the gasket is the most likely explanation. The loud slurping sound was probably the drain doing its job and sucking in the pressurized water.

I'll most likely stick to hand washing for the foreseeable future.
