Water in liftgate

Hello!

I've got a 2016 sr5 that's got water (lots) accumulating inside the liftgate after it rains. I'm nervous about the electrical components inside the liftgate getting damaged.

After looking around the threads here, it seems like its probably the weatherstripping across the bottom rear glass.

That's the first thing I'm going to try to replace; I was just hoping someone could point me in the direction of a part number for it. I've searched various threads here- but all seem to be for 4th gens for this particular repair.

I think it's #68292-35041, but just wanted to double check. Also open to other thoughts if there's something else I should be checking.

Some water will always get past the weather strip at the bottom of the window. If you have a lot of water in the tail gate, it is not due to the weather strip, but rather due to the drains at the bottom of the door. Your drains are clogged. Clean them out so the water will drain out. If you open the hatch, you can easily see the three drains at the bottom.

Your biggest worry should not be electrical, but rather rust. See:Rear Window Went Crunch- Need Help!

You can actually pop out the black plastic hand holds and then reach in and wipe the grime out or blow it out. I had to after a recent trip to Utah where a lot of dust got in there with all the dirt road driving.

Thanks, unfortunately it's not "some" water, it's a lot. Multiple quarts after each time it rains.

I'll definitely check out the drains too and clear them.

Unfortunately my question wasn't answered there, and the threads were years old. I did try to check out information already on here.
