water in passenger side?

So lately I noticed that the passenger side carpet has been very damp. At first i didnt think anything of it until it started to get worse and worse. So I took off the trim pieces and pulled back the carpet only to find that the foam insulation was completely soaked. So i sprayed a hose under the truck and noticed that water was comming in through a rubber drain gromet. After sealing this with silicone, I figured the problem was solved. However, the carpet continues to get wet. The thing is, the carpet is only wet on the flat portion of the passenger side and not the slanted portions, so the leak must be on the bottom or something. Just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem or any ideas as to what the problem could be. It sucks because its starting to smell and theres nothing I can do about it

friend of mine had this issue although it happened on a Jeep, not a 4runner, and it turned out to do with the "heater core". Do you know if the liquid on the floor is water, or is it anti-freeze?
 
I have noticed a small puddle of water on my husky floor mat on the passenger side as well on occasion.

Its hard to diagnose because it does not happen all the time. I have seen it a few times when washing but other times it will not be there. Same thing when it rains. Sometimes it will be there and other times it will not be. Even a cold foggy morning it will sometimes be there and other times it will not be. Very hard to diagnose exactly where its coming from.

Its not coolant since it would smell very sweet. Heater core leaks tend to fog the inside of the windows even on the warmest and sunniest of days and thats not happening either.

I suspect it might be a bad seal someplace on the windshield that is causing a bit of water to find its way in if water hits it just right. Unfortunately not uncommon with the windshield is replaced. I also noticed the rubber seal around the outside of the windshield is look a bit weathered (likely not Toyota OEM) and that might have something to do with it.

Another thing it could be is some drain might be clogged in the outside air ducts by the windshield wipers. Water cool pool up and leak in that way. Not uncommon on a 10 year old vehicle.

Right now its about an ounce of water and it just collects on my rubber husky mat not causing any problems. If it starts to get worse I will investigate further. I have a few dings in my windshield and one has started to crack a bit so I am sure I will need a new windshield before this year is up anyway.
 
That grummet that you plugged... was there a hole in the center of it about 1/2 an hinch? If yes, you might want to check your heater box, there is a drain there for the a/c system. If it's unplugged or blocked, it would do exactly as you described. This hose should stick out of the firewall about 1 hinch.

Take note of this post only if you have a/c in your ride as non a/c toytas don't have this hose.
 
this problem is only happening when it rains out. If it was the sunroof drain, where exactly does it run because I am unable to find it. As far as the gromet I plugged it wasnt one on the firewall but rather one underneath the carpet on the passenger side, right in the middle. I believe its more for drainage purposes if the car were to get flooded. Either way that wasnt the issue. I also noticed many hairline cracks in the floor board, so I have also sealed these up. Still, I doubt this is the issue but it still concerns me why the cracks would be there in the first place. Its supposed to rain tomorrow so ill drive around with the carpet pulled up and see where the waters comming from hopefully....
 
be better to run some plastic line like weed wacker type line down it rather than compressed air. compressed air could pop the line off the sunroof, and give you the fun of dropping the head liner.
 
today i noticed the water dripping in from the door jam area, so im assuming this is where the sunroof drains out. Are the holes in the rubber around the sunroof the drains? I guess ill try some weed wacker line and compressed air to see if it helps...
 
sooo today i attempted to clear out the sunroof drains as i found this to be the problem. Started with weed wacker line.....which wasn't strong enough to push through the build up in the drain...then i tried using the compressor....no luck. So i bought some rubber tubing which was thicker and much stronger and I still was unable to clear the drains!! What other options do i have?! I couldnt find where the drain tube ended as I thought I could try unplugging them from the bottom up. If anyone has any ideas i would appreciate them!!
 
I would try putting that weedwacker line in the chuck of a drill and seeing if that will push it through... like a plumbing cleaner thing... you could also try draino but I'm not sure if that will do anything and it might harm the rubber seals.

A year later, how did you make out. I may be having the same problem.

Where are the drains on the roof end ?

Did you discover the outlet ?

I had an issue when I first got mine, it was a grommet in the firewall allowing rain to run straight in it. It would run right down the inside and flood the floorboards but not the slanted front portion. Sealing that grommet fixed it right up. It ran along the side where the wires ran so it couldn't be seen but collected at the bottom.
