Water in the gas tank...

You guys aren't gonna believe this but I somehow went through the carwash (ultra wash) with by gas cap off and the gas cap hatch open…

My heart is just sinking at the thought of it. Vehicle is running fine after 500km, but god knows what is going on under the hood.

Can you guys give me some practical advice on what to expect? Should I get my fuel filter changed? Is there anything I can do?

You're fine.

If it didn't die right away, there's really nothing to worry about.

500km is one tank for you, right? Fill it up, and keep driving it. Check the oil, just to be safe.

Just for peace of mind, you might go ahead and add a bottle of Heet or similar product to your gas tank to bind/burn any remaining water...

Like was mentioned above, add a bottle of HEET or some other water displacer and say a prayer of thanksgiving you don't have a new diesel!

Star Tron. it emulsifies the water, allowing it to mix with the gas be carried out as it goes through the combustion cycle. Good stuff. We use it in boats to eliminate the water which inevitably accumulates in the tank from the crap ethanol added. water is heavier than gas so it settles in the bottom of the tank. you may have intermittent stumbling and stuttering as it sloshes around and is randomly sucked up by the fuel pump.
Don't worry. There's prob very little, if any, in there. The filler neck does have that little self closing flap.
