Water intrusion from moonroof seals??

Last Sunday it poured like crazy here in CT, and as I was driving back from the local BestBuy on the highway, I heard water over the left side of my head. It sounded like it was running down the B-Pillar , but after a close inspection at home, I could find no trace of water on the carpet inside the truck, or on the headliner, luckily.

I had a bad squeak from my driver side armrest for a couple weeks, before I took the panel partially off with a trim lever tool, then slammed it back in with the heel of my hand. Not a noise from that anymore.

So I went to the stealership "service" dept yesterday, and a technician said that they were not waterproof, merely "windproof", and that there are drains on both sides that channel any water to the back and down through the body of the truck.

I just didn't think that I should be actually hearing lots of water running in the headliner at all. Since I have to drop it off next Friday for service (annoying slight clicking in the headliner, same location, probably the sunroof deflector actuator tubes again) they said they would check it and make sure the drain hoses were not blocked. I wish there was a way for me to get a look in there without ripping it apart. The service dept did the sunroof TSB last summer and the sunrrof rattle has been absent all this time. My new noise is not the same.

Does anyone else hear water from their roofline (inside the truck) while driving in a downpour? Generally the truck has very few problems, only these little annoyances, noises, that I can notice when they start up because it's usually very quiet.

I can't say that I've heard water draining, but I believe it is true that there are drain tubes to channel water out of the headliner. Check the panel where the jack is -- I believe one of the drain tubes is in there.

yeah, i've heard the water as well. i haven't thought much about it b/c i didn't notice anything bad (ie wet spots). i've had mine for a year now, through rain and snow so i figure if it was a malfunction, that something would get wet.

I haven't heard water draining on mine either. Just scheck to make sure your moonroof is aligned when closed.

Also there are 4 drains on the moonroof, on the front going down the A pillar on each side and then onthe back each side going down the c pillar to the rear bumper area trough the back. If the run offs are not working you will quickly see water through the headliner, so dont worry too much.

It's Ok it seems

It was checked, and it seems to be fine. No water inside the truck. It may have been just the volume of water that was running along the roof rack track that I was hearing, and not neccessarily inside the truck.

Has anyone ever gotten debris inside the roof between the roof and headliner because of the sunroof being open?

I am wondering how a stick or leaves would be removed if some got in there. It seems possible it could happen in the Fall.

Yes, I hear water draining when the rain is heavy enough. I also have noise when I use the wiper/washer to clean the front windshield. I guess the water from the nozzles blows up and into the drainage holes for the moonroof. Or the wind blows the excess water off the side, resulting in noise.
