Water leak after rain

1999 4Runner. Noticed this week after some heavy rain my floor mats on the driver side were wet. I pulled carpet up a little and looks like its coming from some sort of circular opening but can't tell what it is. Any ideas?

Reaaalllly good chance its the firewall grommet where the cables run through to the engine compartment from the cab. Mine did this before.

Same here. I ran some water down over the windshield and watched it come right in though that wiring grommet above the clutch pedal. Mostly happens during heavy rains. You can find that grommet in the engine compartment, near the fender, by the master cylinder. Has lots of wires going in through it.

You can replace it but you will most likely have the same issue, I would suggest using some RTV/silicone to seal around the wires and where the grommet meets the metal, clean any dust or dirt that's on it first, use a latex/rubber glove and apply it with your fingers to make sure you get the RTV in and between the wires, etc., make sure it not going to rain until it dries or about 12 to 24 hours, if you still have it leaking a bit in the next rain, reapply more RTV, or the leak maybe elsewhere.

Totally agree. RTV is your best friend next to duct tape. If you can find the source of the leak, RTV usually can fix the problem. If it don't fix it, you got a really big leak.

I am new to this forum so hope I’m doing this right but wasn’t sure where else to go to find an answer. I bought a 2019 4Runner a couple months ago. I took it through a car wash that does all the power spraying etc and noticed when I got home the carpet was wet on the drivers side and a little water on the mat behind my seat. Soaked it all up and it rained pretty good here today and yep, the carpet was wet again!! It does NOT have a sunroof. It does have a roof rack. Took the manufacture ones off and put other ones there over a month ago but it went right into the holes the other one came out of. I’m reading stuff about cleaning drain tubes, etc but I have no idea where to locate them on this. Can someone help?
