Water leak behind intake manifold

Hey guys, I have a 1990 3.0 V-6 in I recently developed a water leak. At first I thought my head gasket was gone because it was coming from the back of the motor, but then I noticed it was coming from the area above where the exhaust crosses over the back of the motor. So I traced it to what looks like a heater hose coming from behind the intake manifold, not the one going into the cab, but just underneath it. Does anyone know what the name of this hose is and if there is a way to replace it without taking off the manifold? Thanks for any help.

P.S. It looks as if the hose is "U" shaped.

not sure what the name of the hose is but it is not that big of a deal to take the intake plenum off to get to it. just label each hose you remove and take LOTS of pictures.

Well, Unfortunately, due to a lack of tools, I have to take it to the mechanic and have it done. Costly repair for a $7 piece of rubber.

Okay, I just got a quote from a mechanic, it will be a lot cheaper for me to just buy the tools and do it. All I can think of that I need are the intake gaskets, the hose and a torque wrench to torque everything down to spec. Anyone have any guidance for me? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

if you don't want to buy the tools, many parts shops will lend you a set, including a torque wrench.

in the 3vz-e section, open the Engine Mechanical - Cylinder Head document. Step 27 is the water by-pass outlet which is likely where one of your bad hoses is.

when you get to your bad hose, just take it off and bring it with you to the parts shop and they should be able to match it to a new one. if not, take it to your local Toyota dealership. they'll get your your hose but you'll pay a lot more.

to be clear, you will need to replace the intake plenum gasket, not the intake manifold gasket.

P.S. I actually want to buy the tools, the truck is 17 years old so I will need to get them. I think I need new axles in the rear end, any ideas?

ok, so since I have this thing apart. Any suggestions for cleaners for the plenum & throttle body?

It is STILL leaking, but I can't tell from where. somewhere behind the motor. I don't have a compression check tool. Does anyone know of a sight test I can do to see if it is the head? I have heard that you can check the radiator and if the water comes bubbling out it could be the head. Any other suggestions? Thanks


UPDATE: All is well. After searching high and low, it was a hose underneath the intake plenum that I missed. Truck is running fine, and I am surprised as hell. Thanks for all of your help everyone.
